Hey all please and thanks for your help.

MCAT 32 (PS 13 V 8 BS 11)

OVERALL GPA 3.99
Science GPA 4.0

Achievements:
2 year LDS mission in Spain (more religious than humanitary)
8 Years spanish education, fluent
over 300 service hours with leadership positions as well in Habitat for Humanity.
40 hours of service as volunteer medical interpreter at hospital

7 years as a musician (last year I did was my first year of college band, haven't done it since)
2 part time jobs over the past 3 years (salesmanager and work with foster kids)
40 hours research in zoology
100 hours research in organic chemistry
80 hours research in liver transplantation at a medical school (a school OOS for me)
'In press' research from liver tranpslantation
Oral presentation of liver transplantation research at NCUR
80 hours of shadowing abdominal transplants and procurements (some scrubbing as well)
President of premed club this year, previously held another position
Started a premed book club on campus
Present of honors society on campus
Multiple honors and awards listed (nothing too extreme)

Other important info:
Married
First child due in a month :)scared: and )
White caucasian

Before I list the schools I want to apply to I wanted to ask what people thought about me throwing in more shadowing before I fill out secondaries and fly out for interviews. I have always wanted to go into primary care and have yet to officially shadow any primary care physicians, been busy with everything else and should probably get around to it. So I set up a poll for people to vote to see what you all think.

Also I know the MCAT verbal is bad, but it was my hardest area always and I really thought I did better than an 8, but I am going to take it. All schools I looked at below had their verbal lower ranges going into 8 from what I saw on MSAR. What do you guys think?

Also if there are any schools out there you think I should apply to as well that like semi-nontraditionals as myself (married with child) please let me know.

Thanks!
Assume all these are OOS for me. thanks.

Oakland and Western Michigan are both private so that would work in your favor

A couple other schools you might want to consider adding are Quinnipiac University as a safety if you want another of those (Newer, on its second year of recruitment and private) and University of Miami (Harder to get into, but with your GPA I think you'd have a good chance. They are also no longer state supported so being OOS isn't as big a deal). :)

depends strongly on what state you are from. Florida public schools are notoriously OOS unfriendly. West virginia and Marshall tend to take people from WV and the surrounding states only, UCSD is a cali school (nuff said), and baylor gives 70% of its seats to texans, meaning you need an above average app to have a chance from out of texas. U washington takes students from washington, idaho, wyoming, montana and alaska, and rarely ever takes anyone from anywhere else. I'd remove these schools if you dont fit their residency criteria.

Other than that, your OOS list looks good, although u viriginia is a reach with your stats. Add all the SUNY schools as well as U Vermont. Try your luck with UAB and Uillinois, although the latter has an absurdly high OOS tuition rate. Also throw in loma linda, since they are big on religious activities.

Found a new school to apply to! Western Michigan!

Western is also brand new, and is only planning on having 50 kids in their first class. Just something that I would consider if it were me.

Glad you mentioned that, I forgot about them earlier.

Their website also says they cant offer federal loans either, so thats something to consider as well.
