Hey! congrats on the interview - and may you have many more !!

This is something nice I found when I have been on interviews: alot of times when you first get there in the morning and you're incredibly nervous, the dean or whomever, usually starts the day off by saying that you should relax and just enjoy the day because if you're there, it's because they like and feel you will do well in their school.

That's a good thing because there's not much you can do really but just be yourself. Mostly too, you can read through this site and maybe check interviewfeedback. As for healthcare issues, just think of what you have experienced yourself or your family or at work. You could also try the Medscape.com website, which has loads of these kinds of topics.

Enjoy your day !

you can also check out http://www.bioethics.com

relax while you're there, speak to students who already attend the school, n' be yourself.

lots of luck. 🙂

wow...your first interview and its ucsd...talk about badass...

congratulations...

now you talked about healthcare....here is a good site that has a lot of issues and talks about the different sides of it

http://www.publicagenda.org/

i hope you do well...

10 days isnt too much but just go over the sites this thread is givin ya and make sure you go over the interview feedback.

my friend just recently had an interview there a couple weeks ago and she said it was pretty chill and nice...so hopefully you have the same type interviewers.

Here are the things that the interviewers tend to mention to the interviewees about why to go to UCSD:
Good spanish clinics that you can volunteer at.
Electives during class so you can remain a well rounded person.
Research
Location.

I'd be sure to mention the top three on your interview there.

Hi,

Congrats on your upcoming interview.

I would suggest reading the entire school's web page and look for things that you can ask questions about.

Then I would suggest going to interview feedback if you haven't already.

Make sure you know your reasons for wanting to become a doctor.

Go over your application and the secondary you filled out for them.

ANd relax, be yourself and you'll do fine. They don't expect you to know all theings in the health world. That is why you wnat to become a doctor, so you can learn all about those things.

Good luck😀

Congrats on your interview!

UCSD is my first acceptance; they let me know a few days ago a couple weeks after my interview in early Jan., so I'm currently very psyched about the school.

Although they seem to emphasize research, I've only done a summer of research after freshman year, didn't like it, and was honest during my interviews about it, admitting that I was interested in more clinical exposure. So if this is the case for you, I wouldn't be afraid to admit it. The required research project is very broad and definitely does not have to be bench research.

I don't know if I'm an anomaly, but out of the 8 interviews I've been on, I've had *very* few tough ethical/healthcare related questions. The vast majority of the time has been spent discussing my activities. At UCSD, this is all I really did (and judging from what interviewees that day said, same for them), and I think the best method of preparation is to get to know yourself really well - what's important to you, how certain events/activities have shaped your life, and what aspects you'd like to emphasize to the adcom. After you've given some thought to that and looked at some healthcare/ethical websites, I think by far the most important thing is to try to be relaxed during your interview (easy enough to say, right?). I was incredibly nervous during my first interview, to the point where the interviewer asked if this was my first interview...I guess most people aren't as bad as I am, but after some preparation, be confident, try to keep things in perspective (you probably have more interview offers coming your way), practice some relaxation techniques, etc.

Best of luck, and PM me if you have any specific questions about interview day.

Congratulations, celebrate and rock the interview:horns:

Hey, I only read your post so maybe my answer will be unique:

Be yourself. On that note, know yourself. Don't pretend to be someone you're not - you got the interview because of your accomplishments and your essay so why change?

I didn't read up on current health care and, honestly, it didn't matter. Most interviews are clarifications on your credentials or a nice conversation with a doctor.

If you have time for some good reading, my recs. are:
1) William Osler - A Life in Medicine
Some say he was the greatest doctor ever. He was responsible for residency education and the prestigious reputation of Johns Hopkins university and writing a comprehensive textbook. He also wrote a lot about being a good doctor.
2) Delivering Health Care in America - A Systems Approach

Good luck.
