Hello. I'm questioning about my future as a Med School student/Resident...

Is it possible to maintain a healthy relationship/marriage as well as attending Med School and Residency? Is it hard to balance the two?

Regarding Residency, how many hours on average does a Resident work? I've heard numbers upwards of 125 hours. (Do they require you to stay in the hospital, or is that for night shifts only?)

I know that I am full of questions...thank you for helping me to feel more comfortable with what lies ahead.

Sincerely, Julia

Yes marriage in medschool can be good. Excellent in fact. You will find many of your classmates will get married while in medschool. You will not lie on your deathbed wanting to see another patient. You will want the company of the ones you love and know that you spent your life doing good work.
Residency is a very hard but exciting part of your life and love adjusts. Surgery & surgical Subspecialties =100+ hours. Less than that for almost all others. Think more like 60+ hours. Remeber you can always call your better half and have them come eat with you in the hospital.
