I applied with a 3.07, got an interview after fall semester when I had a 3.13 gpa

I had 4.0 at the time I applied, 3.98 at the time of actually starting pharmacy school. I graduated with 3.76 from pharmacy school.

Wow, I envy those who got in with GPA below 3.0. I have a 3.4 but didn't get in last year.. I have a solid resume, but PCAT 78 and froze during interview because I was too nervous! Trying again this year- Best of luck to all!

i dont think people would say their GPA is low if it wasnt on here--if anything people would be more willing to bloat their GPA. all this poll tells me is that its not completely about numbers, its more about the individual and whether the adcom thinks you will make a good pharmacist or not. im tired of stressing over my low GPA. i sent all my apps in and im just gonna pray i get in somewhere - wherever that may be. ill be there with bells on and shoot for a 4.0 at graduation in 2012

It's exactly that. The only problem with the low GPA is that your application may be rejected right off the bat, before the admissions officer (depends on the school, but they are usually separated for initial review among several people, to get rid of obviosly inappropriate and incomplete ones, since there are so many) has a chance to learn how wonderful you really are. However, if you are lucky to not get rejected without getting a closer look, and other than grades you are a great candidate, you have as good a chance as a 4.0 candidate.

i got interviews to pacific u in oregon, ucsf and western and these are all the schools that require you to answer additional questions besides the personal statement. These are the best bet to get into pharm school if you don't have a superb gpa. And no I did not take the pcat

This could be said in a ton of different threads, but, think about how many people apply and think about how many people qualify. Doubt we'll ever know the percentage, but just something to think about. Lets say a school has 1800 applicants, 200 of those were bad applications, another 200 didn't even qualify by grades, 50 change their mind about pharm school, 50 dont submit transcripts to pharmcas. I am totally making up those numbers, but just a thought for those that have a lower GPA or PCAT score and think they are up against exactly 1800 students.

The numbers do not follow a normal distribution at all, as the highest percentages are at the most extreme end of the ranges...3.9-4.0 and below 2.8?? I doubt this is the norm...

Yeah, I made a graph It's not a normal distribution at all. Then again admissions isn't really made to accept applicants under a normal bell curve right? If anything, the graph should be left skewed with the scale below, i.e. toward the higher GPA range. Which is why this leads me to believe some people probably picked the lower range as a joke

I'm in a kinda a same situation as you did. I don't have a great gpa because of extenuating circumstances that ruined my first 2 years of hardwork in the college. I'm currently preparing for October pcat and I saw that you got 99 percentile. Can you suggest me any tips and what material did you use for pcat preparation?. My english is the weakest point being a native speaker.

GPA really really doesn't count for everything. Granted my PCAT score was a 99 composite, and I have plenty of research and volunteer experience, but my GPA was only a 2.65 (granted it was a dual-degree program and I still scored above my major's average). You can probably imagine what grades I got (They REALLY weren't pretty). I'll be a P1 at Univ. of Maryland this fall.

So don't give up. If you have a poor GPA, do your best to boost it as much as you can. Retake classes if you have to. I'll tell you that my improvement for GPA shot up the last two years (but you can only do so much if you made a lot of mistakes your first two years). If you've done all you can, and you make yourself stand out in other ways, you've got a chance, even at a top tier school =) And of course, start your application right by focusing on your personal statement and making sure your applications are complete nice and early in the application process. Because there's a lot of pharmacy programs out there. If you do something to stand out in some way, chances are some admissions director will notice you. Just be sure to be able to explain why your GPA isn't as strong as it could be (like I did during my Maryland interview).

And really, people who denigrate others just because of their GPA and their stats should be ashamed. We're in the United States, and there's an opportunity for anything and everything to happen, as long as you're willing to try. We're all trying to be pharmacists (and hopefully good ones at that). Good job if you got a great GPA during undergrad, but kindly don't put down those who may have had extenuating circumstances surrounding their not-so-great GPA. Thanks =)

I'm going to guess you won't get an answer from the poster you quoted, considering the post was from 2007. Try the PCAT section or searching for an answer, I'm sure many people have posted advice on preparing for the PCAT.

Yes there is chance...My friend got accepted in 2011 with 48 percentile PCAT, though her GPA was 3.4...With the expension of pharm schools in the last 5 years, all you need is a 3.0 GPA and 60+ percentile PCAT...Get ur GPA to the 3.0 mark, score 60+ percentile apply broadly. One guy that took biochem with me and failed it was accepted at a reputable pharm school right after failing the class. His PCAT was in the 60 percentile...I dont know what his GPA was. I dont how difficult is the PCAT but I heard that getting a good score is not a walk in the park.
