  1. Medical Student
I'm a medical student currently in the National Guard. There's a new program where the NG will pay you a full time salary plus benefits (medical, dental) while you attend medical school. The program is labeled ADSW. ADSW is superior to the Active Duty Military scholarships out there (HPSP) because you will choose and compete for civilian residencies, you have no active duty service after medical school, you get insurance (TRICARE) while in school, and your service while in medical/dental/PA school count toward retirement whereas this is not the case with the active duty programs. Lastly, you'll have only 5 years of service following school which could be served in the inactive National Guard if you so choose and you are 100% non-deployable (you will not be sent somewhere) during medical school and residency. This means that if you choose a residency program that is at least 5 years you will never be deploy involuntarily.

I have served in the active military and have to say that all in all this is the best program for medical professionals every developed by the military. If you have any desire to serve the US in uniform and care for military personnel as a population, as well as have a civilian career, this is a great way to do it.
