Hi,

I am a pre-dent currently in the application cycle for class of 2012. I recently heard about the National Health Service Corps. Is anyone applying to this or know anything about the application process?

When do you apply for this?

What does the scholarship cover? How much? What if you went to the 50-60k+/year private dental school. Will it cover the tuition no matter where you went?

How long is your service?

What is the work week like?

Thanks

There is a whole forum dedicated to NHSC and IHS. You'll find tons of info there - especially in the "advice on national health service corps scholarship application" thread.

An app cycle just ended, so the last page or two of that thread was posts about waiting on acceptances. The next application will come out this winter (DEC/JAN). Call and get your name on the list for the app if you haven't already.

Here's answers to some of your questions:
-Full scholarship + monthly stipend of ~$1600/mo
-1 yr payback for every year you accept the scholarship (2 years min)
-It's super competitive - based on a scantron test (personality test) and your personal disadvantaged status, not gpa etc.
