Has anyone ever heard of the National Health Service Corps making an excaption on allowable residencies? I thought I wanted to do primary care, but I am also interested in surgery (which is not approved). Thought I would ask here first. Any info would be appreciated!

No I don't believe so. If you signed the contract and received the scholarship (even for 1 year) you are locked into a 2 year minimum service committment (depending on how many years you signed for- could be upto 4 years). If you wanted to do surgery, then you would have to complete a primary care residency, serve your time for NHSC, and then reapply for a surgical residency and become a resident again. Sorry for the bad news, but I'm 99.9% sure that what I said is correct.
