Hey all,

I just posted this in the veterinary forum, but realized that there are a lot of veterinary students and vets that hang out here as well. It also occurred to me that plenty of you pre-vet students are way smarter than I, so if you are bored enough to read and have some thoughts on any of it, I'd love to hear from you.

Here is the link to my post in the veterinary forum

Ah, it's been a while. Miss this place. Was here way back as a fresh, starry eyed college student thinking I wanted to do pre-med (I know, I know). I was waffling about pre-vet, but didn't think I could do it--lack of experience, blabla, everyone has their reasons--but it was you guys + my mentor that ultimately encouraged me to take the leap 🙂 SDN FTW.

So I'm not a current vet student yet (C/O 2022), but I know people that have failed the NAVLE multiple (!!) times and still turned out to be successful doctors. Don't beat yourself up over it - it's just one test, and thankfully you have the opportunity to retake it (and re-retake it if you need to). In the end, you'll get a job as a veterinarian and be successful because you'll have passed the exam. The fact that you failed doesn't mean you should quit trying to become a veterinarian. Like you said, it was only a handful of points that kept you from passing.

My advice (based on experience from retaking failed exams) is to think back to the test and try to list the topics that you a) really struggled with and b) knew really well. Create a study schedule for yourself that emphasizes the things in category a but don't forget to sprinkle in some of b to keep you hopeful and optimistic as you go. It's always nice to review things that you feel comfortable with to prove to yourself that you can do this, that you're smart, and that you're capable of success.

I understand that your time prior to the exam was terrible. I'm so sorry that you had to deal with all of that, but I firmly believe it will make you a stronger person in the long run. I know that means your life is kinda sucky right now - just know it's only temporary. In the end, you'll get to prove your ex wrong. You'll be able to show her that you CAN and WILL pass the NAVLE, that you WILL become a successful doctor, and that you believe in yourself even though she doesn't (which honestly doesn't even matter anyways). Keep your chin up - this will eventually pass.
