Hi,

Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, or an obvious question, but what exactly is the problem with bumping old threads? Like what is the problem if people want to ask the same question, or a tangential question, instead of starting a new thread? Not sure why this is forum etiquette--it just creates tons of similar threads rather than keeping things organized, IMO. Can anyone explain the logic behind this?

People usually bump threads to answer an outdated question or post spam. Bumping to post a followup question is uncommon except maybe in forums with less traffic.

Anybody else?

It aggravates members who read through pages of posts only to discover that it is an old thread, with old opinions.
By the time they figure this out they've wasted quite a bit of time. If we had a way to title such bumps at the front end: Beware! Necrobump!, it might not be so bad. For the most part, we hope that members will start their own threads with questions that are pertinent to a current problem.
