Hi
I am really new to this forum. I loved what i have read so far. First of all thanxs for all the wonderful info and helpful advices.

I need a little advice as well. I gave my part one in july and scored 83. Only applied to NYU got a call from there, but didnt go for the interview cuz of the family problems.
well i am accepted in MS in Operative dentistry. ITs going to start in July. Eventhough i accepted the position but i am not sure about it??
I am not sure if its ther right choice or not??? eventhough so many states give the licence with 2 year post grad program. But do u think i should give part one again??????
I am jsut scared what if i dont score better??? What about wasting another year??
Its just that i need peace of mind with my decision. Just want your honest opinion if i made the right decision

Thanxs agian for all the help full info

Hi Pumpkin,

Welcome to SDN and congratulations on getting accepted into the
MS program in operative dentistry. I think you should go ahead and
enroll in the MS program and move on to study for Part II in the time
before the MS starts since you won't have much time to study while
you are doing the MS.

Congratulations.

You should go for MS. If I remember correctly, Rahmed on the other thread suggested that you can be a faculty member after you complete MS and then finish DDS for a fraction of the cost you'd pay now.

Also, you can practice as a specialist in some states after MS. Do a search on this forum, you'll find a lot of info.

If you don't mind sharing, could you please mention in which university you're accepted and your work experience, GRE reqired or not, etc.

Thanks and good luck!

mogembo & dent_doc

Thanx a lot for such a prompt reply. I appreciate it. U helped me lift a load off my heart, and made me feel better about my decision.

Mogembo coming to ur question. I am accepted in Univ of Iowa. UI takes 2-3 candiates each year. There was a full day interview with all the faculty members. There were total of 24 candiates interviewed. We had to do one class 2 prep. Everything was provided by the departmen.
Yes GRE is requried but there is no special requirement for the score. U just need to pass it. Even if u havent taken the exam they will accept the application. U can give the GRE before the end of first semester. Toefl requirement is 550.
I did observership/dental assistan work for 6 months in a govt hospital. I also got the recomendation letter from American dentists so i guess that helped a little.

Thanks again and i hope i answered all ur queries

Thans Dr Sj
Coming to ur questions I was planning to do DDS thats y i gave the Part 1 otherwise it is not required by the MS program. It may be different for the University u are planning to apply to. So i would suggest that u check with the univeristry. When i went in for the interview the Pogram director told me that it doesnt matter to them how much i score on GRE because u just need that for the Degree. The score of GRE doesnt affect ur admission. The Current students i met with told me that they score 600 on gre. So dont worry about GRE and ur toefl is fine. Well again please check with the univeristy ur are planning to apply every one of these univ have different rules.
No for Univ of iowa part 2 is not required.
NO i didnt ask for the AID at the time of the interview because i was told by other people that u should ask about it when u are accepted.
But i had the advantage that when i applied i was in Iowa for more than 2 years so The univ told me that i would be charged the resident fee. Which is almost half of what Non resident had to pay. I was also told by the other students that once u get in the program u can work as teaching assistant. IF u get this job ur fees is reduced to half.

Best of luck
