Hi folks,
from reading most of the posts on this forum, i realise that i am probably one of the very few who chose to apply to optometry schools really late since i have most of my interviews scheduled for late april.
Nonetheless, i would appreciate any advice or tips anyone can give me on interviewing at PCO and OSU....
Any help or advice would be deeply appreciated...thanks

Hi mabigtin -- I interviewed at PCO last fall -- there's a brief description of it here: http://www.studentdoctor.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55931

PCO's interview is very casual, I think they just want to get to know you as a person and why you're interested in optometry. My one-on-one interview with a faculty member lasted about 45 minutes, as I remember, and I think the day ended around 3:00 or 3:30. If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Good luck! 🙂

I'm an OPT I at OSU- I gave a long description about the interview under a previous thread "Ohio State Program"- last post was 1/22/03.

Hi folks,
thanks for all your replies to my post. They have all been very helpful. I just got a letter about an interview at ICO . Does anyone have any tips/advice for me about the ICO interview?
thanks

Yes I do have advice for you about ICO. This is really the only interview that matters. You see, ICO is clearly the best school available. If you turn down ICO...well, I just don't know what to see about you. Just Joking Around!

Seriously though:
ICO is really a laid back day. My interview was just, "So...how are you?" Since my dad went to ICO the interviewer said, "Asking you the 'Why optometry' question is pretty dumb?" I laughed.

ICO is really big into private pratice, so if you are looking at a different route, maybe down play it. Since my interview did a lot of research, I made sure to mention that I had been looking into the OD/Ph.D program ICO has with U.Chicago. I probably won't do the Ph.D, but a little kissing up never hurt anyone.

Advice for any interview:
Read A LOT about the school. I had watch the video 3 times, looked at every page of the web site, read through the entire catalogy they sent, and drove around the school the night before the interview. I did all of this so I could ask some really indepth questions about just ICO. By doing a ton of background reading, it shows that you are actually interest in that school. I also asked about the schools involvement in AOA and lobbying for optometric rights. I also asked, "Despites IL's current regulations on OD Rx rights, how much pharm is directed toward oral medications and other medications allowed in other states?"

Ask questions like that, show you really want this and are not just jumping into a field you know nothing about.

Good Luck!

GO ICO!

A big thank you to rpames, TPMOH and r_salis for all your advice and tips....wish me luck.....once again, thank you very much!!
