Hey guys,
Here's my current dilema. I am graduating, but have extended my official graduation date until after summer quarter (so i can try and set up an FP sub-I). My whole 4th year was geared to a different specialty. Unfortunately I did not match. After speaking with some physicians in FP, I have realized that I believe I would enjoy going into FP (hopefully eventually doing a sports med fellowship--> non surgical sports med at least 30-40% of my practice over time).
I have made a decision to graduate after a sub-I (to get a strong LOR in FP), but I had already taken 5 years and don't want to go a 6th. I plan on setting up some research in the field as well.
My main question is, I know that some residencies may be worried that I have been off the wards for too long prior to the demanding intern year.
Anyone ever (or know of people) who have successfully taken a year off AFTER graduating and losing student status? What are some options to help me not get too rusty in my clinical skills/knowledge? Any other experiences that would make me a more desirable candidate for FP??
thanks for any sort of advice.
