I am doing my pathology residency at Emory University, Atlanta, GA. I want to apply for cytopathology fellowship for 2012-2013. Please guide me through the process as I am an international medical graduate and have done my USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3. I am worried about the fact that I have done my USMLE steps not the canadian medical licensing examinations. I wanted to know if I would be exempted from those exams. Thanking in anticipation.

Canadian clinical fellowships (as opposed to research fellowships) are a lot less structured than in the U.S. - the method of funding them varies a great deal, and there is no general standard in terms of licensure and background requirements across the country.

Best to contact the programs directly to find out if/when positions are available, and what the requirements are. As always, websites may not be representative, or up-to-date.

As others have pointed out in the recent past, cytopathology is not one of the Royal College pathology/lab medicine certifications. If you need a piece of paper to say that you have undergone some sort of accredited training, then my advice would be to seek a position in the States.
