Hi guys,
I'm planning on applying to some American Dental schools, but don't know which ones are worthwhile and when is the earliest I should be applying. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!! <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" />

Where are you from DeeDee? The application cycle here starts June 1st (for entrance into school the NEXT August)-- that's when AADSAS (huge bureaucracy in Washington DC that makes a ton of money by photocopying your application and mailing it two months later to all the schools to which you choose to apply) starts accepting applications. Most dental schools strongly urge you to get your application to them as early as possible.

Hi Melbourne!
Thanks for replying. I'm from Canada, but I'm not really familiar with the American Dental School application form. I've just about given up applying here in Canada, so I thought hey, maybe if I could save up some money (tons, that is), I might have a chance at an American school. What do you think? Which private schools do you recommend?
Thanks again!
DeeDee

DeeDee, did you submit applications to Canadian schools and not get selected? If I were you I would basically apply to many private schools in the states. It's hard to say which ones are easier to get into. There aren't that many dental schools in the states ( I want to say there's a total of 54, correct me if I'm wrong anyone. ) Apply to ones that you would honestly want to attend. The schools publish their average DATs and GPAs, but even that is not really a reliable way of determining if you have a shot. Different admisssions committees look at different aspects of their candidates. If I were you I would call various schools, talk to as many admissions counselors as possible, and get a feel for which schools you like, which schools would fit you, etc. Good luck.

DD,

I would use Big_Poppa as a reference. He's also from Canada and he's graduating from Marquette University School of Dentistry next month! I'm sure he'll love to help you and answer any of your questions and concerns! Since I joined SDN, Big_Poppa has great answering dental school application process questions to many applicants from Canada.

You can usually find him by posting a thread in his name in this forum (Pre-Dental) or the Dental forum.

Pick up a a copy of Admission Requirements of US and Canadian dental schools. Its got stats what states, or countries students have come from for each school. Your best bet is US private schools (not public). My friend from Toronto just got accepted to Detroit Mercy, I looked and they accept about 10 Canadians every year.

hey, thanks for the input, Yah-E, you're real cool.

Steiner, you's a ho.
