Hello I made a post previously asking for advice but I'm posting another with updated stats. Not sure if it changes much but I'm worried about applying this cycle (though I really want to) originally I preferred to stay in Cali but my MCAT practice scores aren't looking so hot. As is I'm looking for honest advice as to where I have a chance at an MD admission. I'm still unverified but have my primary finished. Just waiting on transcripts since my school only did mail-orders. Feeling very stressed and worried about still being unverified and taking my MCAT next week. Not sure if I'm considered a "late applicant". I will be prewriting secondaries within the next week.

Demographics:
Cali Resident | URM (Mexican) | Male

Stats:
  • cGPA = 3.75
  • sGPA = 3.76
  • MCAT = I am taking 6/20 and I'm predicting a 509-511. My practice scores have been around here.
EC's
  • Research 855 hours | Listed as two programs. One wet lab (neuroscience) one cohort study (chemistry). Presented 3 posters in total.
  • leadership 250 hours | president/founder of a health science club
  • nonclinical volunteering + leadership 1400 hours | Director of a shelter for homeless college students / RA for shelter
  • tutoring/teaching - 900 hours | College STEM tutor + Leader of a team of tutors.
  • Clinical volunteering - 400 Total | 120 hours - children's hospital | 280 hrs - Family Med Program (presented film/survey on homeless healthcare issues)
  • shadowing 140 hours | Neurosurgery
  • Community Service/Volunteer nonclinical - 50 hours | Helping recently incarcerated individuals apply for jobs and social service programs
  • Hobbies Listed - Music (violin, piano, guitar) | Gardening and cooking)
Extra Info.
  • Recommendation Letter include Neurosurgeon I shadowed, Tutoring Boss, Research PI
  • Applying Disadvantaged: (low SES, approved for FAP, medically underserved and will mention in secondaries)

Thank you, everyone, so much for the help. Much love. Please be honest with my stats. I know my MCAT falls short but if there's any chance of me being admitted this cycle I'll take it.

Good luck on the MCAT. Come back with an official score and we can help with specific advice or lists. I'd also suggest you network with SNMA and LMSA chapters at the schools you are interested in attending.

Hi Mr.Smile. Thanks for the reply. I'll get on that networking soon.
Additionally. I feel like there's a lot of pressure to sort of have things planned out prior. Which is why I made the thread. My practice exam avg is 510 (with a low of 508 and a high of 513). Assuming I got a 510. Would you discourage applying this cycle?

Rolling admissions favors the prepared and knowledgeable about the process. I can't say anything about discouraging you from applying. if the MCAT is all you have left.

Thank you so much.

I'm a little uncertain about the timeline since this cycle is a little different. Since verification is taking longer I'm assuming I'll be verified, with a score, and pre-written secondaries by late July early August. Is this considered late?

Behave as if there hasn't been any change to the application processing timeline. You can't bank on the verification process taking longer, but as it stands I think most people here consider Labor Day as the inflection point between "on-time" and "late".
