hey guys --

i am writing my master's thesis right now and am currently formatting some of the figures. can anyone point me to a good tutorial for subtracting out the background from gels with photoshop? don't worry, i'm not talking about "editing" my data (i know there are big concerns about this) - what i want to do is apply a filter to the entire picture because some of the Coommasie and silver stain gels were over-developed and have crazy background. (so, i just want to improve the resolution.) Also, re-scanning the gels isn't an option b/c my lab notebook is in texas, and i am in louisiana.

thanks for the help!

Silver stained gels always have highbackground, I wouldnt worry to much about it. At most I would mess with the brightness and contrast a little. Going further could seem like some sort of impropriety, even the implication of which you want to avoid, even if everything is kosher.
