I am a borderline applicant who is not very with writing essay responses. Does anyone have sample responses or advice on how to answer those secondary questions? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

all i can tell you is to be HONEST and just write. if they ask why you want to be a doctor, then give a straight answer. most secondaries are too short to give an intro and conclusion and everything.

I've had the same problem writing the secondaries. A lot of schools ask why you want to come to our school and I don't want to come off cheesy in responding - like I don't want to say "This school has all the qualities that make it a perfect school for me" - I don't know, it just sounds cheesy.

What's helped me a little is that I have mentioned the school's curriculum and location. I want to be in or near a city so I mentioned I liked that the school was in a city or something.

Also just brainstorm all the reasons why you like a school and why you applied to the school.

When you get questions like "Why do you want to go here?", it almost seems to me that you are going to reiterate the positive points about that school that is shown on their website or in the catalog, like early clinical experience, near a big city, in a small community, the rest of the curriculum, diversity of their classes, etc. Its pretty much a question to see if you have spent time reading about their school either on the internet or in their catalog......of course all this stuff may just compliment personal reasons as well, such as if it was your state school, it will be cheaper, and you'll be closer to home and family, all that good stuff

the best bit of advice imho is to write the way you speak. most premeds that i know are very bright and very dedicated; they have their hearts in the right place and you can sense that from the way they speak. if you write with the same passion and conviction that you speak with, then you'll do nothing but impress. hope this helps.

I agree with everyone else, and I try and really do my research on these schools so I can say reasonably intelligent and honest things. The more research I do the more I usually DO like the school and that comes through when I write the essay.
