Hi everyone,

I finished my final year of dentistry and came to the U.S. without completing my residency. So,i do not have my degree.I wrote the part 1 boards in dec and am waiting for the results.
Can someone tell me whether they got into school here without the degree ?
any info on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

thanx,durelon

I don't know of any US Schools that accepts students without a BDS degree into their International/Advanced standing programs. You can try getting into a 4 yr regular DDS program. You would need to take DAT for admissions into 4 year programs.

hey raji,

thanks for the info.i did take the dat last year and applied to schools but most of them require a year of study here in the u.s..so i am in a dilemma about what to do.

anyways,thanks.

You have two choices. Either go back to your native school and complete your degree and then come apply for advance standing or take a year and finish the prerequisites for dental school which include: 1 year ochem, 1 year gen chem, 1 year biology, and 1 year of physics. If you can tackle the four hard science prereqs in one year then it is worthwhile to stay in the US. However, this is a very daunting task and if you can get your BDS sooner than that is better.

However you must understand that applying for a 4 year degree has a higher chance of acceptance than an advance standing degree.

Good luck to you.
