Hey All,

I'm going to Loma Linda for IM and my hubby is going to Arrowhead Regional for IM... 😍

He is going out to scope out housing and we were wondering what areas most residents lived in? I looked online and Redlands looks nice, but I've heard that there are some sketchier areas around Colton and Riverside? Is that true?

We're looking to buy a house either soon (now or in next year) or rent a house until we find something... any realtor info, banking info out that way or renting info (I've been looking online too...) would be greatly appreciated. 😳

Also - what cell service is good out in that area? I have Verizon now but my contract is up next month, so if I'm going to switch I probably should do it then.

Any and all info on the area, housing, cell stuff, and anything else that I'm not thinking of right now would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! 😀

There certainly are shady areas out there so make sure you visit the neighborhood before you sign. The inland area is growing so you can still find nice places but I wouldn't know where exactly. As far as cell phone, stick with verizon, it's the most expensive but in Southern Cal it is very good, by far the best service at least 2 years ago. Good luck, I'm actually looking at both those programs, trying to get back to Southern Cal.

Thanks for the advice! Anyone else? 😀

i currently live in San Bernardino/Loma Linda area. There's so many housing construction going on here but Houses became expensive around here recently. That being said, there's so many real estate biz around.
Regarding sketchy areas, there's sketchy places even in LL. Redlands is nice but has sketchy areas as well.
To look for places to rent/buy check the trading post and pennysaversusa.com
the trading post website is : http://www.llu.edu/news/tp/
Keep verizon for cp service-it's d best around here in terms of coverage from what I've heard. I got cingular and it seems ok.

I am going to Arrowhead this June too for FP and would like more information in terms of housing! Are there any good area west of Colton/San Bern.? Thanks!

😀 Awesome! Thank you SO much, those two resources are really good. Craig's list is decent- I've been checking that (at least it's free for that area...). LOL

I'm getting SO excited! Keep the great suggestions coming!

Thanks again! You rock! 😀

I am from the area, and my brother and a good friend are real estate agents. To those who have inquired about housing in the area, PM me if you guys are interested. (You have nothing to lose since only the seller pays commission).

Hey Mr. Coleman, don't take away my future clients j/k, I am no real estate guy so I'm clueless about the whole business.
Bryn Mawr in LL is a nice area, very close to LLUMC. Colton and Grand Terrace are very close areas as well. San B has nice areas but the nice areas are close to CSU- San Bernardino (my alma mater 😍 ) . The immediate area N of freeway 10 is pretty much okay but there are some poor areas. The Norton Neighborhoods has some nice and poor areas as well. I think houses may be a little cheaper in the Norton Neighborhood but it's not really a nice place to live. Stay away from Muscoy or downtown San Bernardino!San Bernardino is rampant with gangbangers, you can read up on Mynesha, a little girl who was killed while in her home due to gangbangers in the neighborhood. Fontana (or Fontucky, hehehe) has nice and ugly areas and someone told me that its population is mostly Latinos .
Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Alta Loma, Santa Monica are all pricey and are a little bit far from LLU and ARMC but you are going opposite traffic at freeway 10. San Bernardino mountain areas is really nice. A lot of richey people live there but its far and sometimes they close the main freeway during winter.
Moreno Valley is in Riverside County but it is definitely a residential area. You can take the freeway or can take the sidestreet (i think it's Reche Canyon drive) and wave to the burros/wild donkeys by the hillsides. Reche Canyon is like what it sounds like, richey!
IE is very diverse in terms of ethnicity. I think Latinos are the majority here in SoCal. There's so many ethnic stores around. There's a lot of hole in the wall restaurants such as Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, Chinese, Indian, etc. As I said it is a rapidly developing area, they just opened a new mall in Redlands. Ontario mills and Victoria Gardens is closeby.
My Out-of-stater friends told me that air quality sucks here. They hated the summer for it goes up to 115. It's pretty nice though during winters because it doesn't get that cold. Car is a necessity here, cause public transportation sucks! I know cause I don't have a car right now. 🙁
If you want to stay REALLY close to LLUMC and can afford it, I recommend LL and BrynMawr.
