One year. It seems like such a short period of time, but I am struggling trying to figure out what to do for that one year. At first I was just going to work, but now that doesn't seem like a good idea. Then I was going back to school, but finding a program that fits me best is proving to be impossible. I just wanted to know what others have done during the year of the application to medical school.

Hi ComplexPuzzle,

One great option for you (especially since you're already in the D.C. area) would be the NIH's post-baccalaureate IRTA fellowship. It's a research program designed specifically for students taking off a year between undergrad and applying to medical or graduate school. This is how I have been spending the past year.

Here's a link that should work:

If you're interested, feel free to ask me any questions. Good luck!
