Hey guys! What's up? Well, I need some help deciding where to apply. I know that there is a sticky, but I posted there (I actually posted twice) and I never got any response. I am trying to get my AMCAS out by tomorrow night, so I figured I may actually get a response this way...

Anyway, here are my stats:

New Jersey resident
Neurophysiology major at the University of Maryland
Cumulative GPA: 3.64 (I have an upward trend if that matters at all - 3.34 freshman year, 3.72 sophomore year, and 3.85 junior year)
BCPM GPA: 3.58
MCAT: 36Q

Here is my current list of possible schools to apply to:

UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School
Eastern Virginia Medical School
Albany Medical College
Temple University School of Medicine
The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
Drexel University College of Medicine
New York Medical College
Thomas Jefferson University Medical College
Georgetown University School of Medicine
SUNY Upstate Medical University
Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
SUNY Downstate College of Medicine
Boston University School of Medicine
University of Maryland School of Medicine
Stony Brook University School of Medicine
Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University
University of Massachusetts Medical School
University of Connecticut School of Medicine
University of Rochester School of Medicine
University of Virginia School of Medicine
Brown Medical School
Tufts University School of Medicine
Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the University of New York
Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
Weill Medical College of Cornell University
New York University School of Medicine
University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Theres about 30 schools there and I know thats a lot... With my stats, how many schools should I be looking to apply to? Are there any on that list that you think I should take off? Any schools that you think I should add?

One last note: I am trying to stick with schools located in the Northeast, as I would prefer not to go to school extremely far away from home....

Thank you so much for any help you can offer...

You have a great MCAT score and gpa...in my opinion, I dont think u need 30 schools. I think u should keep it below 20 at least. Thats what I think.

Anyone have any opinions?

I apologize, it seems like you've really gotten the SDN cold sholder! You're definitely a competitive applicant so 30 schools is overkill. I'd cut out the out-of-state state schools and any others that you're not really interested in. I'd say all in all apply to ~15 but no more than 20 schools.

Your list looks pretty balanced to me. If money is not a problem, go ahead and send out apps to all those schools. You never know what'll happen if you don't. Some state schools like UV and UConn probably take very few OOS, so think about removing those. Other than that, you look solid.

Thanks for the responses so far.... I really appreciate the help

So far, I have taken off the following schools:

Eastern Virginia Medical School
Albany Medical College
VCU School of Medicine
SUNY Upstate Medical University
University of Massachusetts Medical School
University of Connecticut School of Medicine
University of Rochester School of Medicine
University of Virginia School of Medicine

How do those look? Any of those really good schools or something that you think I should put back on my list?

Also, am I going to be wasting my time if I apply to SUNY Downstate College of Medicine or Stony Brook University School of Medicine as an out-of-stater?

THANKS AGAIN!

Are Dartmouth and UVM too New Englandy?

Good choice to remove UMASS--it's only for MA residents.

Otherwise, you're good to go. Best of luck to you!

I think your list looks good! URochester is actually a great school, but if you don't think upstate NY is for you, it might not be worth the application fees.
