My friend just got his PCAT scores:

MULTIPLE-CHOICE SCORES::Scaled Score (SS):😛ercentile Rank (PR)

Verbal Ability::407::63
Biology::479::51
Reading Comprehension::511::68
Quantitative Ability::503::52
Chemistry::538::77
Composite::504::55

Writing Scores::Score::Mean

Conventions of Language::3.0::2.90
Problem Solving::3.0::2.87

His GPA is 3.5, but I don't know if it will offset for his below average PCAT scores.

What do you guys think?

p.s. his 1st choice is Ohio State pharmacy program.

From what I have been reading in the PCAT forums, the range is 200-600, where the median (400) equals to 50th percentile. My friend's scaled composite score is 504, but his percential score is 55. It doesn't add up! 😕

People who took the PCAT just recently are reporting scaled composite scores in the low 400's, and their percentile ranks are in the 80's and 90's. 😱

No bun intended, but the MCAT, DAT and other admission test scores are easy to understand, yet PCAT scores are totally confusing. A score of 400 is said to be in the 50th percentile, but 504 = 55? Maybe I should research more. 🙂

My "friend" believes that your PCAT scores don't add up. He says that your verbal ability of 407: 63 makes sense, but the others do not. He says that there may have been an error with your score. He asks if you were expecting a 55 for your composite score or somewhere around there. If not, then maybe you were supposed to get really really high scores with your 504 composite score. He suggests you contact the test people and talk to them.

Thanks.

I didn't actually see the scores myself but they looked suspicious to me, and was wondering if others found it strange too.

There is a big jump between scaled score of 400 to 500, but only 5 percentile increase between them. The reason I asked was because my friend's scores are not consistent with other scores people are reporting on these forums, so I wanted someone to clarify it for me, as I think he either made them up, or it's totally the strangest score ever reported for PCAT. 🙄

By the way, which schools accept GPA 3.5 and 55 on the PCAT, with completed B.S. degree?

They look very strange..

for example, I had a 452 for chem and percentile was 96... I took it in august.. very weird :S

Like someone already mentioned,

Only the verbal Scaled Score (SS) and verbal Percentile Rank (PR) and writing scores make sense.

i know this is not relevant to this threat but i just would like to know how hopefull can you be if u bubbled atleast abt 10 questions in chem and quantitative? i took it for the first time this october and i must say not a pleasant experience for me...would not like to take it again...but when i read the "should i retake it" threats i feel i am not worth anything when people getting 90s and even 80s wanting to retake it!

Because Pearson does not release the number of questions we got right nor do Pearson release stats on the norm group, we cannot be certain how many questions we need to answer correct to be in a certain percentile or scaled score. Oh and we don't know which 8 questions are experimental neither.

The only thing I can say is its a good thing you bubbled in 10 on the math and chemistry section. If you done this, I'm pretty sure a lot of people done the same.

Don't worry too much about the test now. often times, however you felt about a certain section does not correlate with the results. This is the case with reading and verbal. A lot of people feel good about their reading and verbal performance. Keep in mind, so does everyone else in the norm group. So your real percentile score might be lower than you thought.

For the math and chem sections, it's the opposite. Everyone felt they done horrible. In actuality, the norm group felt the same, and you might score higher than you had previously felt.

When I took the test the first time, it was not pleasant neither. I suggest taking PCAT practice exams under time settings. Having done numerous practice exams, I felt indifferent after my OCT PCAT test. It felt routine to me and I felt I can take another 4 hour PCAT test the next day.

Statistically, most test takers take the real PCAT more than once. So don't feel awkward to sign up for a second or third try.
