So I'm a bit down today....
Just got the 'waitlist' from NYMC, a school that I thought I had a good shot getting into.
Right now here is where i stand:
post-interview HOLD: Downstate, Tufts
Post-interview Waitlist: NYMC
post-interview no word yet: Chicago Med, Drexel, BU, Syracuse, Temple

and I can predict a waitlist/rejection from BU, Temple CCL since im out of state, and Syracuse....well its been 6 weeks! since my interview and no word, I called and they said 'a decision hasn't been made yet' and I'm highly assuming some form of waitlist.

other than that I have 14 rejections and have yet to hear from 15 schools, but those are some big boys that I'm highly doubting with the exception of vermont, gw, einstein, and stony.

I HATE this process, I really wanted a nice acceptance before the new year. this is quite a downer.

i'm pretty much in the same boat as you are. my story:
waitlists: vandy, temple (out of state,CCL)
post interview no word: BU, Rochester and UCLA
a fair share of schools that are ignoring me or rejected me.

this process does suck but at least we have been waitlisted... although sometimes slim, there is a possibility... It's better than no interviews at all. Besides you still have several schools that will be reviewing your app within the next weeks or so... GOOD LUCK.
🙂

hey big red,
may i ask you what your stats are?

Big red applied to 29 schools.....damn, there was a good chunk of money!😱

3.45, 30Q, cornell biochem major
years of research, pubs, clinic work.
and I think I'm a nice guy ...
but who knows whats wrong,
I hope something good happens soon

with all those interviews, some schools are bound to come thru for you. good luck 😀

hey big red,
you've had a good amount of interviews, and you still have to hear from some of them, right? so, don't worry. be hopeful, and it will work out!

sometimes it takes a long while to hear any news. the torture will continue. my advice is to keep yourself busy with something.

wow I think that was my firs time ever posting my stats.
not a very merry christmas for me. :-(
I just can't believe I made the NYMC waitlist! DAMN! argh.

hey, don't lose hope! I've heard from many sources that if you're waitlisted, you have a good chance of getting accepted if you are persistent... so waitlists, while they are not as nice as acceptances, are still good news. 🙂 It's still not the end of the interview season, so keep waiting... it's the hardest part, I know, but in the end, we just have to have faith that it'll work out for the best. Who knows? A lot of weird things happen--good and bad-- this process is so damn arbitary.

You will be a doctor!!!

hey look at it this way, it's not a rejection. a rejection means 0% chance of getting in. i would guess that NYMC has a lot of turnover in their acceptance pool, so that would mean digging into their waitlist pool. hang in there for the bumpy ride, you still have a chance of coming out with that thick packet.

your stats are great. a 30 on the mcat is the avg score of people getting accepted to med school, a 3.5 is a solid gpa and furthermore you are at the only iv leage school with no grade inflation.

how are you interviews going? i've met a lot of different people during this interview process and i can't get over how stressed out some of the applicants get. yes, this is stressful, you are interviewing for the opportunity to pursue the only career you ever wanted.......but, the applicants who were worried, continually rereading their applications etc. seemed to awkward. you could almost smell the fear on some of them. i don't know how you in particular are during your interview, but it's something to keep in mind.

there were two schools that i really wanted to get into and they were definately not stretches. many people from my undergrad attend these schools and liked them. i met a physician who is on the board of trustees of one of the schools and he told me to hightlight where i went to undergrad on my application. my stats were right at their avg., and with my schools reputation these were almost "safety schools." however, these were the only two schools i was sort of nervous at. i really wanted to go there, i knew it, and it made the interviews a little more on edge. the school were they told me to highlight my undergrad college, i was put on the hold list. the other i haven't heard from yet. however i've been accepted to every other school i interviewed at, some that were ranked much higher. one of those schools i loved but i really didn't think i would be accepted. instead of being nervous i just enjoyed the day and didn't feel any pressure.

i think there is so much to be said about your attitude when you are interviewing. there is a fine line between being confident and cocky and being too laid back can get you into trouble too. but, i must say those were the only 2 interviews that weren't ejoyable.

good luck, i'm sure you are going to get into a great school. just think of this as a reminder of how much you really want it.
