Ok here is the thing. Last year I graduated with an AS in Biomedical Electronics. I have been working for a hospital repairing CT, MR, X-ray and Linear Accelerators. I am very talented in this area and have about a year in this profession. I just put my notice in to go back to school to get my Pre Med Undergrad. I was just accepted and planned on going this semester to start it. My boss just offered me a $4/hour raise to stay (up to 46k/year) and said that he would work around my schedule so I could go to school part time and have 90% of the tuition paid for. What should I do? The school that I planned on going to is in another state so there would be no way of going to this school and working. I really want to be a doctor bad. What should I do?

Well actually I am currently in Milwaukee. I was moving down to Clarksville with my dad next week. I was accepted at APSU and was going to select classes next week. There are schools here but if I stay it will take me about 5 years part time just to take get my undergrad here at UWM. I am just so torn. I just got this offer for a raise a couple hours ago.

You can take 25 credits a semester at UWM, its a very easy school. If you already have a degree, you dont need a whole degree from UWM, just the premed classes...you should do that, on wisconsin!

Are you saying 25 credits a semster at UWM while working 40 hours a week or without working. There are several reasons why I want to go to TN. The one major one is that my father is moving there for a job and he'll take care of all my bills I have (not Tuition tho) while I'm there.

Oh ok, I noticed also that you got an AS, I have no clue what that is. If its a degree, then just take your premed classes...if the job is in milwaukee, I think you can handle both, its not competitive for pre med's at all...I don't think they even have any. Its a big engineering school.

Look if your heart is set on going to APSU and your father is there willing to help you out...hello? why the dilemma. If you are as good as you say in your job there should be no problem of you getting another job in Clarksville or heck even Nashville for that matter. Go to APSU you will not regret it there is a LOT of personal attention there for students and your LOR's *will* reflect that trust me.

Yeah I was only slightly considering staying.... The only reason for staying was that less debt that I would have by my work paying for the undergrad here and also the $4/hr raise.

A.S. = Associate of Science

Yeah but remember the undergrad at apsu is dirt cheap and if you kick arse you can get a tutoring scholarship that covers a good chunk of your tuition....

It shouldn't take you more than 2 yrs or so to get the BS/BA if you already have an AS. I would do whatever is faster, and also look at where you want to go/practice. What state would it be easier to get into med school from? Money is nice, but I would expect to be poor. Might as well get used to it for a while.

Well acutally only about 25 credits will transfer to a 4 year university I have already checked into it. I am 80% sure I am going to APSU.

Tennessee = 4 medical schools and Vandy is really where I would like to go.
Wisconsin = 2 medical schools and UW is a good school too.

Then there is your answer this is a no brainer in my eyes. Also the two schools in Wisconsin *do* take out of state folks...I actually applied to both MCW and U of Wis and received interviews at both but declined them.

It's quite the concept. Clarksville isn't exactly a booming economy, unless you could the service industry, ie food service....
