I know that there's a book recommendations thread, but I just spent the last 30 minutes going through it and haven’t found quite what I'm looking for.

I'm starting an assistantship and I really need to brush up on my neurology and brain anatomy and functions. I took physiology in undergrad and am familiar with the brain, but I really need to put it to memory as well as take it to the next level...any recommendations?

This will depend on what exactly you are looking for and what your job entails. Neuropsychology, neuroscience, or straight neurology. A great book for neuropsychology which also gives a great background in functional neuroanatomy is:

Kolb, B. & Whishaw, I. (2003) Fundamentals of human neuropsychology, 5th ed. NY: Worth Publishers (W.H. Freeman).

For more of a behavioral neurology focus, I would recommend:

Cummings, J. & Mega, M. (2003). Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience. NY: Oxford University Press.

I would also recommend the following if you want to some serious work and delve into structural and functional neuroanatomy.

Diamond, M., Scheibel, A. & Elson, L. (1985) The human brain coloring book. NY: Harper Perennial.

The textbook for my Neurobio class, which I liked, was Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain by Bear and Connors.

I use Bloomenfeld for class, interns and residents. It would be my first choice.
