I will be applying to MD/PhD programs in next year's application cycle. I am interested in neuroscience, particularly in neurodegenerative disorders (stroke, Alzheimer's, ALS, etc.). I am looking for research that is geared towards pharmacology/drug development. Does anybody know any good schools with programs for neuropharmacology or neuroscience with a focus in that area? Keep in mind, although my grades are high (haven't taken the MCAT yet), they are not Harvard or Johns Hopkins high.

University of Nebraska does a lot in this area.

Check out University of Pittsburgh/Carnegie Mellon joint MSTP. They have a huge neuroscience program.

Neuroscience is a big and "hot" field right now, practically every interview I've gone to promoted their neuroscience program, and 80% of the applicants I interviewed with seem to be interested in neuroscience... it might be helpful to do some Google and PubMed searching for any papers you've read recently and going from there (e.g. look up institutions, references ' institutions, etc, see if there's a trend) or use the NIH reporter (which institutions are NIAAA, NIMH, NINDS grant heavy, skim R01 titles for pharmacology-related projects). Though of course don't choose institutions based on just one PI.

Also check out UAB, they have a huge focus on neurodegenerative disorders.
