I was wondering if anyone had any info about where the next new DO school will be opening up.

It looks like the newest school will be in Virginia. Here's a link:

I've heard rumors of one going in to Utah, as well.

Artois,

Yes, one of my neighbors here in Utah is considering funding half of a new DO school. Hypothetically, it would operate in conjunction with Utah Valley State College, a local college here in Utah County, UT.

I'll keep you posted I here anything more.

By the way, from what I've seen/heard, there is no possible way the school would be opening for 2003. Perhaps 2005.

Any word on whether either school would accept a large number of out-of-state students?

The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine was created to fill the demand for primary care physicians in the rural areas of Virginia. My guess is that the amount of out-of-state applicants it takes will depend upon the amount of qualified in-state applicants it can get.

I don't know anything about this alleged "Intermountain College of Osteopathic Medicine" in Utah. They haven't begun the accreditation process, thus nobody I've spoken to in the osteopathic community has even heard of it outside of that article in the Utah Daily Bugle or whatever it's called. You wouldn't believe the looks I got when I asked about this place at PCOM Founders Day last week, especially when I propagated that rumor about the Osmond twins funding the place. I wouldn't count on applying anytime soon.

Personally, I hope one day to found the Honolulu College of Osteopathic Medicine. :D

That would be nice! :D

Yeah, I'm at the Y and I haven't really heard much, just the rumour that there might be one put in here as part of UVSC. Had no idea when though.

The Utah school looks like it isn't going to receive any funding from the state, according to the article I read (thanks, ItsGavinC), so I don't think they'll care if you're in or out of state.
