Not really if you considering the size of the respective organizations. The American Psychological Association has substantially more members than the American Psychiatric Association. Thus, they Psychological Association usually gets the big "P," making it the "APA," and the Psychiatric Association gets the little "p," making it the "ApA." And the head of the APA is a psychologist!

We are calmer than you are.

Size of the organizations aside, the psychologists got apa.org. So they win this one. ;)

I don't.
Why would I?

Come on, sazi, we all know that size matters :p

Based on that logic, the United Auto Workers association is more powerful than the United States Congress since they have more members.

Quantity does not equal quality or equality.

I have very little (i.e. nothing) to do with psychology as a profession. I'm not involved with them, I don't go to their lectures, I generally don't read their books, I don't read their journals routinely. And, I don't approach patients like they do. My knowledge base is very different from theirs.

That whole thing about big APA and little ApA was some nonsense made up by an SDN poster. It has no basis in reality. Believe me, the American Psychiatric Association doesn't adhere to this little APA thing.

In all seriousness, I think you should find an MD/PhD program where you can do research, find a psychiatry research elective, be a "psychology intern for a day" to see the wonders of their profession, or jump ship entirely and become a psychologist. It seems you have psychology on the brain, and are much more vested in their interests than that of psychiatry and medicine. You might not like the average shorter patient encounters in psychiatry, lack of pontification, and other things that psychiatrists do.

American Psychiatric Association founded 1844.

American Psychological Association founded 1892.

Hmmm, so that would make one "first" and the other "second." Or, one "true" and the other "imitator." OK, so the second, imitator APA is bigger.

In that case, the psychologists should give apa.org to the original APA.

Ask your significant other if they care more who came first or who is bigger??? ;)

Here, I found a summer job for you I came across on Craigslist:
I'm sure you don't mind running to office max and fetching roast beef sandwiches for this tool who's basically insisting on a doctoral student to do his gofer work for $15/hr.

Assistant to neuropsychologist

Part time job with neuropsychologist, 10-20 hours per week, weekdays; a graduate student in psychology is highly preferred. Skills needed: healthcare billing, marketing, writing, proofreading, Internet research and access to academic libraries, web site development. This is not a clinical job, and there are some ordinary office duties, like errands. Building up a professional group practice is the overall goal, and this experience would be invaluable for someone planning to become a psychologist. Check out my web site to find out about my practice: www.thebrainclinic.com.

E mail me your resume. PLease do not call.

Dr. Thomas

Job location is 34th and 6th Ave

Compensation: $15/hour, with possible raises and bonuses

This is a part-time job.

Thank you for thinking of me, but I have boards to worry about. Clinicals after that.

But aren't you interested in "thebrainclinic.com?"

Step I?
You'll be fine.

I still remember a viscious diarrhea matching section at the end of the two day test. I was on question like....780, and this thing shows up. My brain was so fried I put "B" for all 7 choices to ensure I got at least one right. They were really hard.

Oh well.
Good luck!

Maybe it was one of those roast beef sandwiches you fetched for the 'doctor' at the brain clinic!? Sorry...couldn't resist. Now we're even.

Nothing but love for ya, sazi. ;)

I checked. She says what's most important is being with someone who can use a variety of techniques to achieve the ultimate goal, rather than someone who is limited to doing the same thing over and over, even when it's clearly not working.

I'm going to go use my big prescription pad now.

Hopefully not for Viagra, right?
