Hi guys, got a question regarding saxitoxin as a competitive inhibitor. What substrate or enzymes does it compete with, on the Na ion voltage gate? Does the ligand receptor change its conformation when saxitoxin binds with it? Thanks guys! Badly having a problem here hehehe

I think it doesn't have the answer sir, thanks anyways. :)

Might be better answered by toxicologists or marine biologists. A 2 second google search yielded:

As shown in DermViser's post, I don't believe it acts as a competitive inhibitor in the traditional sense, but instead has a cationic moiety which binds the lip of the channel, preventing an influx of Na (I don't know whether electrically or physically). Since it's a channel, I don't believe there's a 'ligand' for sodium.

I didn't have the patience to read it to see whether it answered your questions.
