Hi all. I am a new poster to this forum. I was just wondering if anyone has any helpful information on their interview experiences at New Jersey Medical. I have scheduled an interview there late february. I was also wondering about information on the best place to stay near the school. Thanks so much!

welcome to SDN! I was wondering if you can tell me when your app was complete, whether you are instate or out of state and any other info regarding the application process there. I have been waiting from them for a while now and nothing.....thanks for the info

I will give you one top... ASK who ur interviewer is... if you have someone with the initias JP... then prepare for the worst... I know people who said she was a totall killer.... but everyone else is supposed to be good.

Dr Don:
I am an out of state applicant, specifically from cali. Unlike most ppl on this forum I applied late. I sent in my AMCAS before the November 1st deadline for UC schools. I sent in my NJMS secondary in around December 15th and just got an email requesting an interview today. I just spoke to them and scheduled the interview for late february...

From what I know, NJMS does not give the name of your interviewer beforehand...so you will just have to wait until your interview date.

I just interviewed there last week and my experience was great. The interviewer I had was very interested in me as a person and took the time to look at my application in some detail. My interview was very conversational and she told some great stories. If your interview is on a Wednesday, you will get to have lunch with current students. If not, it will be just a tour and an interview. I don't know too much of where to stay, but call and ask. The area is not very good, Newark is disreputable for a reason, although people tend to exaggerate how bad it is, just as they do Penn or Temple. Just be relaxed in your interview and you should do fine. Also, make sure they show you more of the hospital than they did for us. We only saw a glimpse of the ER.

Most interviewers are good at NJMS and relaxed. If you get James Hill PhD, you should be cautious. He's very nice, but he gets into your head, asking various very tough scenarios and asks you how you'd "tick", knowing yourself. Pretty tough scenarios, if you ask me.
Michael Katz is the financial aid head... he's very nice and relaxed. Just wants to know you more.

C.R. Spillert, PhD is another nice guy. Know about HMO/PPO, Medicare/Medicaid, etc. He'll ask you about those.

Sometimes, Mr. Lonnie Wright does interviews (I think)... he's very nice and relaxed. Just converses with you basically.

I think that they want to hear you think out-loud and react in a main-stream way, at the same time be able to think from all different angles of a tough situation. Also, know about yourself and reasons for being a doctor and not some other field in healthcare like nursing/pharmacy/tech/etc.
