As of 2007 there is an IDET code and fee schedule from medicare. Has anybody actually collected from medicare for the IDET procedure yet? Considering doing it but don't want to get burned.

    thanks!

We have done about 8 IDETs this academic year and I dont think we have gotten paid for any of them...by the way, what do you think of the new transdiscal procedure?

Do you mean the Bianuloplasty thing from Baylis? The reps came and did a lunch. Sounds interesting, but the equipment is expensive. I will definitely wait a couple of years on that to see what pans out with efficacy and reimbursement.

Yeah, apparently Neurotherm will do the same thing just without the cooling system that Baylis markets. It seems like a technically easier possibly superior alternative to IDET as you will likely get a larger more uniform burn. The Cleveland clinic guys apparently presented preliminary data at AAPM this year.

They did pretty well, most have had significant reduction in their axial LBP. Not sure yet how long it will last though. We always seem to have difficulty threading the catheter into the nucleus though, every time we kink at least one catheter...

Can you bill an accutherm (S&N) disc decompression as IDET?

I don't believe you can, but essentially you are coagulating/sealing the inner annulus in both cases. And the IDET CPT code reimburses better.

Furthermore, it is much harder to kink the accutherm probe.

    Anybody have experience with this...
