New rec. policy?

I briefly overheard someone saying that certain schools have a new policy that you send your letters of rec along with your primary application, meaning that you have to have them ready a good bit earlier than before.

The only school I'm 100% aware does this is U of M, but I believe this person mentioned that at least 20 schools are doing it for the first time this cycle.

Does anyone have any information on this?

It's not required, but it will be an option.

Even still, the service doesn't require that you send them in when you submit your primary.

I was surprised to hear about it during a phone call with U. of Michigan too. It's an interesting policy that I hope spreads to more of the schools by the time I reapply. It'll certainly make things much easier for people who are out of school and don't have a forwarding service or don't want to pay for one.
