Hi all! i had a couple of questions and i would really appreciate if anyone could help me...i am going to be interviewing at Albert Einstein on jan.13 (mon) so i wanted to stay with a student host...unfortunately, the office wouldn't give me a list to contact students so now i am looking for a place to stay...i have to be there at 8:45am...is manhattan too far from the bronx (i have a cousin in manhattan that i can stay with)---i am from CA so i really don't know. then the next day i have an interview at NYMC (i scheduled these 2 ny interviews back to back) so i was going to go straight from the bronx to valhalla...is it easy to go by train??? any help would really be appreciated. i am getting kind of nervous about it b/c it is next week!

nygirl6464,

Here's what my dad, who is a New Yorker who works in the Bronx and happened to be in the room when I was reading SDN, suggests:

Einstein is not the easiset place to get to. You can try to take a cab but the driver may not be too happy about leaving Manhattan. You can take the subway. Take the 5 marked Dyre Avenue (do not get on the 5 marked White Plains Road) train to Pelham Parkway and get off the train, go downstairs, walk East along Pelham Parkway (8-10 blocks) to Eastchester Road, cross Pelham parkway walk South on Eastchester (hospital on right) to Morris Park Avenue. The subway trip and walk would probably be about an hour from 42nd St. Gran dCentral in Manhattan. That's where the med school is if that is where you need to go. If you don't want to do it on the subway you might try to get a private car service to the Bronx or rent a car and then you could drive to Valhalla.

Fron Einstein to Valhalla by train he says you go back to Pelham Parkway, take a bus or a livery cab cruising by the bus stop West on Pelham Parkway to the MetroNorth Station at Fordham Road and Webster Avenue. Valhalla is on the Harlem Line (Blue-striped Train). Schedule is in the stationwhere you buy the ticket. He doesn't know where NYMC is relative to the station but there's probably a cab service or something.

Hope this helps. 🙂

one more thing my dad just added. If you go straight from Bronx to Valhalla check MetroNorth schedules for trains from Fordham station to Valhalla since not all trains stop at Fordham in the Bronx.

here's the online schedule:

I interviewed at Einstein in October, and I got in touch with student hosts by emailing the admissions office. They were really slow, though, and you might want to call. It might be that they're not refusing to give you the names - they're just incredibly slow. If you stay with students it's really easy because nearly all live right across the street from the admissions office.
