The Government's drug rationing watchdog says "therapeutic" injections of steroids, such as cortisone, which are used to reduce inflammation, should no longer be offered to patients suffering from persistent lower back pain when the cause is not known.

Instead the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is ordering doctors to offer patients remedies like acupuncture and osteopathy

I'm no rheumatologist, but it seems we're a ways off from getting a handle on the myriad of chronic inflammatory/pain and autoimmune diseases that cause chronic pain and inflamm.....

Oh, okay, so acupuncture will be covered on the plan? Or will patients have to pay out of pocket? These people are idiots. What myriad of studies support accupuncture for control of back pain?
