Can someone please comment on reimbursement for PM&R or Neuro trained pain physicians vs Anesthesia trained pain physicians? It seems like there are separate entries for these on the MGMA salary report and I just wanted to understand why. Is it the case that based on your primary specialty you get reimbursed differently for the same work?

Heard in private practice they get paid the same. Those numbers might be different based on hospital compensation.

it's the same and totally dependent on the type of practice you have

There can be certain systems where you get paid lower for salaried positions based on your primary specialty. Eg Kaiser pays pm&r pain less than anesthesia pain

Same goes for the VA- significantly less.

the data posted suggests that Non-anesthesia pain pays better than Anesthesia pain.

only in Southern is Anesthesia Pain higher than Non-anesthesia Pain, and only about $6000.

in the Midwest, Nonanesthesia pain pays median $40,000 more than Anesthesia Pain...
