Hi All! Anxious premed question.

I have been involved with a community organization since my sophmore year of highschool. I am currently a sophmore in college, and planning on volunteering until I finish college. I don't have a huge ton of hours, but do have about ~150 from highschool and freshman year, and when I graduate from college will probably have about 300. Obviously I know that medical school isn't just about numbers (though sometimes it feels that way), but will 300 non-clinical hours, spread over 6-7 years be good enough, with likely one about one another ~50 - 100 hour committmenet.

Thoughts, thanks.

I believe the general number touted around here is ~150 nonclinical and clinical hours to be "okay." Beyond that, it obviously depends on what you did, how you can articulate that, and most importantly, how you can speak on your development as a result of said activity.

300 over 6-7 years show great commitment, and I think it’ll be an amazing part of your app!

Commitment/longevity >>> boxchecking hours, even if you can boxcheck more

I think that there may be an expectation that as you have grown in age and experience, that your role in the organization will have changed such that you will have different responsibilities as an adult than you did as a high school student. That, along with longevity in an organization, would be terrific!
