Does anyone know when non-rolling schools make decisions? Do they make decisions all throughout the process and then just inform us in March, or do they make the decisions in the end of February even for people interviewed in September and October? Is it different at every school?

The reason I am asking is because I was wondering how long I can wait before sending an update letter if I want it to be part of my file when decisions are made. Several developments to my application are in progress, so I'd like to wait another month before sending the update if decisions aren't made until late February.

Thanks!!!

My experience is just one school that has just 2 dates on which decisions are released so it is pretty much "non-rolling". Shortly after your interview you are given a score that takes into account your paper application and your interview. The score may be the mean (average) of scores independently assigned by a number of adcom members. That's your score. It is not going to change no matter how much you up-date. There just isn't time for the adcom members to reconsider applications that they have already scored. When the decision day arrives, the names are arranged from highest score to lowest. Those at the top of the list get offers, those at the bottom get "declined" and those in the middle are waitlisted.

Oh! So at your school, sending a letter of intent or any other update materials will not affect their decision. I wonder if this is true at most schools...

I'm pretty sure WashU in STL said to send updates at any time if they add to your application, so I don't think it's true at all schools.
