Hello All,

Sorry for another xxx school vs. xxx school. I am a non-trad trying to decide between schools. I have eliminated one school due to location (10hrs away) although if I could plop the school closer I would’ve certainly attended. Most everyone says you get out of medical schools what you put in. I have obtained a PhD and will work my hardest at any school I attend. However, the two schools I am trying to decide b/w have both received their fair share of bashing :scared: …LECOM vs. NYCOM.

At this point I am leaning towards NYCOM however, if anyone has any opinions/experiences on a few questions I would greatly appreciate it.

1) How much did cost of medical school play into your decision? Is it worth attending a more costly school or trying to save money by attending a less expensive school (i.e. LECOM’s $29K and low cost of living vs. NYCOM’s $35K and expensive living)

2) Many students seem to want to spend time studying at home instead of going to class, especially in cases where instructors may not be the best at teaching. Does anyone have opinions on LECOM’s independent study program vs the opportunity to stay at home and watch NYCOM classes on streaming video?

3) If I had time to engage in a small research project during medical school what are you’re opinions on research facilities, and mentors/collaborators at either NYCOM or LECOM? I would like to keep up with my lab bench skills that I developed while obtaining my PhD.

4) I would like to come home to my house which I own and visit my mother frequently. Can any one share any tips/experiences if you are a student who did a lot of weekend traveling? I would most likely take the bus or train from both Long island or Erie to go back to my home in upstate NY. Maybe I’m being naïve thinking that I can spend time studying while traveling, but this is my “plan”.

5) Lastly, as a 30 something non-trad, which school do you recommend is more “family friendly”? Again, I like the naïve idea that I could have a child (planned) during medical school. LECOM’s ISP path seems to give be more flexible for these situations… I was not able to get much info on the family friendliness of NYCOM…any opinions?

I Appreciate your time and please do not hesitate to PM me if you like
