What schools would appear to be a good fit based on your research so far?
Based on my research

UIC - in state and my top choice
Midwestern University
Indiana University
Rush Uni
Univ of Toledo
Univ of Kansas
New York Medical College

schools that i feel like a reach

UNC
Rutgers

i feel like my lack of research background puts me at a huge disadvantage.

UNC is more than a reach.
Rutgers usually takes no OOS students, though they may take one someday.
Did you look at acceptance data in the MSAR?
What about RF?

I figured UNC will be more than a reach. I just wasnt sure so I posted it anyway. According to MSAR, rutgers accept out of state applicants? I'm gonna have to look into that more. Yes totally forgot about rosalind franklin

any recommendations as far as DO schools? Thank you for your help!

Look at the interviewed and matriculated numbers on the acceptance info tab for Rutgers..

I think you are good for most DO schools.
