I checked Northwestern's online status page about an hour ago. Instead of saying "Your application is still under consideration," it now reads "A decision has been made". Unfortunately, it fails to mention WHAT that decision is. I called the admissions office and the woman told me that she could only tell me that a decision has been made, but she couldn't tell me what the decision is. They are sending out letters, and she said it should arrive in 7 to 10 days. So, that means more waiting.

When'd you interview? My app still says under consideration.

Also "still under consideration." Interviewed 01-15.

Aww. Mine doesn't say anything right now. I'm guesing that means I probably will have to wait until after the March 15 date. Or (hopefully) they havn't entered it in for everyone. I interviewed jan 4

I interviewed on January 22nd

Matre, I would say from previous posts that this is good news. Considering that everyone who has had a decision thus far has been an accept I would check your mailbox fervently. I am also "still under consideration" and interviewed all the way back in December.

why am i still checking this like crazy? sdn is so addictive. anyway, i checked this AM, and i was still 'under consideration'. now 'a decision has been made'.... very suspicious.

anyway, i don't want to jinx it, but i think that's good news. my impression is that when the drop the R bomb, they have a tactful way of "blanking" the page. but that may just be their way of removing files of people from their system. they may only do that with pre-interview rejects. thus, we still know nothing.

dukeblue01, i'm rooting for you!!

DAMN! You all got my hopes up for 'a decision has been made.' I interviewed 11/9/01 and it still says 'under consideration.'

😛

Can someone please send a little 'decision has been made' love ?? And while you're at it, can you make it good news?!?

😀

Also interviewed on 11/9 and am waiting!

I interviewed the middle of December and "a decision has been made" FINALLY!! I really hope it is good news! No one has heard of anyone that had an interview and has gotten a reject or waitlist? At my interview they said they only rejected like 30 people outright after the interview...everyone else gets accepted (around 50%) or rejected...sounds like pretty good odds to me...I can't wait to find out!

Wow, that's a real small number... I hope I'm not in that group...

My status check has also changed to "decision has been made"...

I interviewed on Feb 5th.

The admissions office said the committee met last week, and they will meet again on March 22nd.

For the people who's status changed, did you feel like you had a good interview?

I felt that the panel interview went well, but all of the students who were interviewing that day were extremely qualified. My interview with the dean was not too great, but I am not too worried about it. I really don't know what to expect.

Northwestern does do rejections outright. I had a friend last year who was rejected about two weeks after he interviewed (in Dec). His answer to why you want to go to Northwestern was he liked the football team.

Also, only 10% of all interviewees are rejected by March 15, not 50%. Basically, 50% - a few people who got off the waitlist, didn't get an offer of acceptance.

Northwestern's football team sucks--even Iowa's beaten them two years in a row.

Actually, this guy was the first guy interviewed at UCLA and also was the first person offered admission.

My status changed from "under consideration" to "a decision has been made" as well!! I interviewed on 1/11. Hope this is good news. ::fingers crossed::

dukegirlie

i also think the "a decision has been made" status page is a good thing. Only a few (like 30 applicants) are getting outright rejections after this admissions meeting. The rest either get accepted or waitlisted. I have to think that they are accepting more than 30 people so your chances would be better than 50-50. unfortunately i am still under the dreaded "still under consideration" category.

I just checked the NUMS Application Status page today and noticed the webpage now states, "A final decision has been made." I really, really hope it's an acceptance, but I'm not sure. The school waitlists so many applicants! Also, I would like to point out that when I called the Admissions Office about two days ago I was told a decision has not been made. Should I believe the website or the woman I spoke to? Let me know. Also, how many days do you think the letter will take to reach California?

Sometimes, certain questions can leave you tongue-tied and you end up forcing out an answer that's totally ridiculuous and regretful. I can see that happening to a lot of us. (but I will say that "why northwestern?" is a pretty typical question that one should've been prepared for...)

This is for Jalbrekt as well as anyone who has insight:

Do you mean that anyone receiving a letter now will be either accepted or rejected since the waitlist is created during or after the last meeting of March 23rd? I remember the Assistant Dean of Admissions stating that everyone should receive a decision by the end of March so I would suppose this last meeting is for the last round of acceptances as well as creating a waitlist. Please fill me in with details I may be overlooking or omitting.

I think this might be plausible. People who interviewed before January and have not heard something by now may be in a sort of "hold" category, where they might be accepted in the last Admissions Committee meeting. And, if they do not receive an acceptance then, they are put on the waitlist and notified immediately. This leaves me with another question...

Has anyone heard from Northwestern already and been put on the waitlist?

And you didn't burst my bubble...They said they only interview the top 8% of their applicants...I'm honored to be considered in this catagory. I had a really great interview and someone from my school with lower stats than me (but he does have quite a bit of research experience) that interviewed on the same day as me did get in (I didn't have my official transcripted turned in on time so I missed the first pool of acceptances...not that that is definately why I didn't hear then). Also, I haven't heard of anyone getting rejected or waitlisted so far that already had an interview...not that that hasn't happened, but I was just expressing that I'm feeling like it is very probable that the people getting letters this time have good odds of getting acceptances...this is my own intuition and perhaps I'm wrong. Just becuase you got rejected from UCSF (a different school with probably completely different acceptance policies) doesn't mean you have to go around telling people how likely it is for them to get rejected. I will be VERY surprized if I get a rejection in the next week from them, but I accept the possibility that it might happen. (I won't be surprized if I get waitlisted, just disappointed) And in my book 50% acceptance rate is pretty high...not all schools accept that may people...so to me those are good odds...

Anyone get anything in the mail yet...?

If you do, can you please post and tell us if it's an acceptance/waitlist/reject?

Thanks

I joined the ranks of the "A decision has been made on your application." people sometime in the past few days. I interviewed on 1/4.

(Jalkbret - I met you at the SLU interview, and sat to your right when we watched that video on that tiny TV at NU. Hope all goes well for you.)

Good luck to everyone, and please keep us posted on what you hear.

Just for everyone's information:

The last group of people who's status changed to "decision has been made" occurred on January 4th, and they received the decision on January 10th... so that's 6 days turnaround.

I don't think we will hear anything until March 11th (Monday), since our status' changed on March 4th or 5th.

Goodluck guys...

I got an acceptance letter from Northwestern today. It was dated March 8, 2002. I interviewed in November, and my status changed at the beginning of this week. Also, the letter was mailed to an address within Illinois. The envelope was medium sized and thin--it looked exactly like the envelope that they sent their secondary packet in (if anyone remembers it). Good luck to everyone who is waiting to hear.

CONGRATS!! I wish mail came on SUNDAYS!! I didn't get my letter yet and am DYING to know if I got in!! Your acceptance gives me more hope...which probably isn't a good thing, I don't want to be too disappointed if it is a rejection...

i'm not waiting to hear (from NW) but don't you wanna wish me good luck too? 😛

Good luck, A. Caveman!!! I really hope you don't get rejected! 😛

(Boy, wouldn't it suck to get rejected by a school to which you didn't even apply? That'd be way worse than getting three rejections in the mail from the same school, like someone posted a while back...)

I am one of the people who had a status change last week to "a decision has been made". Today (Monday, 3/11) I received an acceptance letter at my perm address which is in central Illinois. I interviewed on Jan 4th. I haven't seen the letter yet, but I assume it is the same as gel1 described. Also, it was dated March 8th, 2002.

I wish all of you well.

congrats! no news for me yet...more waiting to possibly hear that i will be forever waiting. oh well.

Hello,

I got an acceptance from NUMS today (WooHooooooooooooooooooooo)... ehem.

My status changed on Mon. or Tues. of last week, and the letter was postmarked March 8th... exactly as described above.

I interviewed on Feb. 5th.

Goodluck to all.

-Dr. Sam 🙂

I got my acceptance in the mail too! I'm exctatic!! I think I'm headed to Chicago!!

congrats all! anyone hear who interviewed on or after Feb 19?? Am I pretty much screwed? I loved NUMS when I was there and would probably pick this over Duke!

My online status changed on March 5, 2002 as described above. I received a letter of acceptance today, which was dated March 8, 2002. I am very happy. Congratulations to everyone else who received an acceptance. Also, if you have not heard yet, please keep hope alive. Finally, I want to especially congratulate Sam and others who helped me figure out how the admissions process works at NUMS. Sam, we were right! Perhaps, if we both end up at NUMS, we will run into each other! By the way, I interviewed on January 8, 2002.

Grrrr....
I got my rejection today from NU, my first one!!! 🙁
I love in the letter how they tell me that they couldn't offer me a seat, but they sincerely hope that this will allow me to explore other medical schools.
I guess I was expecting it since they blanked my page a week ago.
🙄 Shannon

I interviewed in mid December and I just found out, so don't dispare if you interviewed in February and didn't hear yet. They might not have gotten to review your file yet. Did you have your official transcript turned in at the interview? I didn't and I know someone I interviewed with got in in the first batch of acceptances in January, but I didn't becuase all my stuff hadn't been recieved yet.
