Has anyone been rejected from northwestern post-interview?

also, if you haven't been accepted so far, march 22nd was the last time they met...does this mean anyone getting a letter now is either rejected or put on the waitlist?

    please comment

    :( :( :( :( <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Hi, Mambo. Welcome to SDN!! :) The reason no one is replying to your post is that the thread title is not specific enough. You should make it something like "Northwestern post-interview rejections?" Then people who are interested in that school will read it and reply. To change the title, click on the little pencil icon (edit post) above your first post in the thread. Then you can change/edit the title and/or the post itself or delete the post entirely. I think you will find SDNers very friendly and helpful once you get the hang of things and people get to know you a little bit. Good luck with your application to Northwestern!!! :D

hey Mamboking... yeah I didn't apply to northwestern either. but the reason no one is replying is probably that not many people look at SDN from 2-5am. good luck!

2-5am is 10pm-1am in Alaska, and 11pm-2am west coast time. Lots of folks post then, notably Dra. Foxy and SwampMan (both east coasters, btw). :D

I don't know about this year, but last year they rejected one of my friends a week or three after he interviewed in October. I know they only reject about 30-50 people each year (post-interview), so I would assume they would do so this one, too.

I just want to shed some light on this topic since about two weeks ago I was in the same position as many of you. I interviewed on 01/08/02 and found my status page on 03/05/02 to finally read, "A final descision has been made." Since NUMS gives out decisions in batches, I realized I was in the third batch. I didn't know what to think---maybe all of the acceptances had already been given out and I was going to be rejected/waitlisted.

Talking with fellow NUMS interviewees on SDN and looking at prior posts, I figured out that NUMS had not sent out any post-interview rejections yet. All post-interview notifications were acceptances. When I finally received a letter, it was indeed an acceptance. Everyone else whose status page changed like mine on that date received an acceptance.

So, I would say people whose status page changed recently (i.e., in the last few days) have a very EXCELLENT chance of being accepted. I am under the impression NUMS does not inform applicants who are rejected/waitlisted post-interview until the last Admissions Committee meeting since interviewees are probably evaluated at every Admissions Committee meeting after their interview. I presume those who aren't accepted at the last Committee meeting are probably waitlisted.

Lastly, I just want to reiterate that no one so far who has heard from NUMS post-interview has been rejected. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also, I encourage you to look at some of my other posts in other forums on this topic. I think they might be helpful.

mr. california...thank you so much for that post...

but this is what I'm so worried about...the last meeting was on March 22nd, and I'm wondering if that is the meeting for "waitlists and rejects" :(

    i'm so scared <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

    MamboKing:

Hang in there! I know you're scared and worried. I was the same way when I heard a decision was made on my application. Try to relax. Do something fun. I know...easier said than done.

I think you should call NUMS (only if you have not already) to find out when letters will be sent. Since there are many applicants who live close to NUMS and use SDN, I would recommend that you create a thread asking fellow NUMS interviewees, who reported a change in their status page in the past few days, to post information when they receive a letter from NUMS. This worked really well for me. NUMS mailed letters on March 18, 2002, and NUMS applicants--those who lived in Chicago--were posting by March 19th that they received a letter of acceptance.

Again, hang in there. If you need any support or more information, please feel free to PM me.

I do not understand why there are so many rumors floating around about NUMS...are people so lazy to give them a call they just start making stuff up??
March 22nd was NOT their last adcom meeting, March 29 will be, at which point all decesions will be mailed out.
Also contrary to some posts here, post-interview rejections HAVE already been sent out (though I'm not aware of any waitlists).
Good luck to anyone still waiting for their incompetent adcom to finally decide (no offence to anyone, it's a superb school, but waiting half a year post-interview is utterly rediculous).
