Boyfriend is a 1st year resident and is treating an elderly woman with Norwegian Scabies... he meant to take Ivermectin as a precaution but hasn't had time to go to the pharmacy and now he's three days into treating this woman. I haven't seen him in weeks and I'd like to see him soon.... how susceptible is he if he's treating her with gloves? He's pretty grossed out and so am I.....

😱

you dont need to take ivermectin i have treated several patients with scabies and have never got it including where i didn't know and wasn't wearing gloves. as long as he has gloved and gowned up and washes his hands afterwards he should be fine. the risk of scabies is usually greatest when you don't know they have it. hope patient has been treated! i had one patient who refused treatment for scabies! these patients always make me scratch...

If it makes you feel any better, he probably comes in contact with a dozen other less benign contagious things in the hospital each week that you aren't even focusing on. 🙂
