not finishing Kaplan Physical Sci Sec, will this happen on real thing?

Question for people who have taken the Kaplan course and their full lengths...

I never seem to be able to finish the physical science section, and I've taken 6 of their full lengths
the closest I've done was to guess on 14, but I usually average guessing on about 20-25

I have heard that the Kaplan phys. sci. section is way harder than the real thing, so I hope this means that I should be able to finish the real thing on the real MCAT

What has been all of your experiences? If you weren't able to finish the Kaplan phys sci section on the full lengths, did the same thing happen on the real thing, or did you finish the phys sci section on the real thing?

(also, same is happening on verbal, I usually guess on 2 whole passage, with the best time being only guessing on 6 questions, any comments on the same question about the verbal will be appreciated, but more interested with the phys sci section)

it is a possibility. Lot of people from my school did not finish the PS section in april 2004 mcat.

Most of the time in kaplan id barely finish PS. On the real deal i had about 8 minutes left over.

for fl2 i actually did every question and had to guess on the last 3-5 because i ran out of time - the passages feel longer too and the question stems are silly at times - just my 2 cents

Everybody kept saying Physical Sci was harder than the real MCAT. But after taking the MCAT in April I found them to be the same. What I scored on Kaplan Physical Sci, I scored on the real MCAT. It freaked me out. So if you do not finish the kaplan Physical Sci section I doubt very seriously you will finish the real MCAT. That's just my 2 cents and as always i would like change please.

I don't think I had time to finish any of the Kaplan physical science passages. The best I ever got on a PS practice test was an 11. Then when I took the real MCAT in April, I somehow finished every question, got a 14, and even had time to tell the annoying kid next to me to please stopping tapping his <bleep>ing pencil at the rate of 100 taps/minute (although I was a bit nicer about it then). Take some AAMC practice sections. They will give you a better feel for the real test. However, be grateful for the rush involved in Kaplan practice tests because they will help you learn to think quicker for the real test.

I had a real difficult time with the Kaplan physical sciences section too. I was scrambling to finish on time and the best I got was an 11. And that 11 I got was with like 20-25 questions wrong! Maybe I just got an easy physical sciences section on the real MCAT, but I finished with 20 minutes left and I got a 13.

Anyone has taken FL #7 yet. PS science is BS. So many "complex" calculations. Good curve though.

To the OP,

I strongly suggest that you work on your timing techniques...With the very first Kaplan full length that I took, my timing was very accurate, in terms of the amt. of time being spent per passage (I think it's roughly 9 minutes, with 3 of those minutes used for reading the passage, and the other 5-6 minutes used for answering the questions...as suggested by Kaplan). However, with the 2nd practice exam, I noticed that my timing was way off (I know why). I found myself struggling b/c I had spent too much time on most of the questions..As a result, I guessed on the last three passages. Needless to say, my score suffered considerably 👎

How are you timing yourself during the exam? How often do you check your watch? Are you checking after every single passage? Or are you timing by triads? I think that without good, accurate timing, you'll be left to rush towards the end of the PS/VR/ and BS sections, regardless of how 'easy' or 'hard' the pratice exams are (compared to the real thing)...

I never finished the Kaplan PS practices. I ended up with a 10 on the real thing in April, didn't finish 5 questions. I think for some reason on test day, the early morning sleepiness did me in and I couldn't finish. The real thing was a lot easier than Kaplan's though.

you guys are scaring me. I generally finish exams but this one being so important, i didn't realize it ran so close to the clock. now i understand why you people said you don't want to have to take a bathroom break.

There will probably be less calculations on the real thing making the test go faster.
