I'm currently filling out a secondary that asks both what makes you a unique applicant and what has been unique about your path to medical school. I have the first essay done and the fact that they're so similar is making the second one tough. My current idea is to talk about how my path has been uniquely uncertain, in that I knew I wanted to be involved in healthcare/health sciences but I first didn't think I would be able to get into medical school and then wasnt sure if it was the right path for me/if i could handle the weight of it. This led me to explore other paths like physical therapy and bench research, but ultimately working with physicians was what made me decide that medicine was right for me and now im here hooray.

My question is, does it sound bad to have ever doubted myself and/or medicine before settling on it? I figured its good that I had a chance to work/observe so many different areas and thats what made me sure of things, but I see how it could be taken as a lack of commitment. Any insight is appreciated.

I think an essay where you discuss being interested in different things and then give compelling reasons to settle on medicine is absolutely fine.

It’s ok not to be one of those people who wanted to be a doctor when they were 4

Building on the last response: it's okay to have doubts. That doesn't make you unique, and that won't help you answer the question. You will have doubts... bank on that.

It's about what aspects of your life experiences, character, or general experience make your "distance traveled" personally defining. How you got to the point of committing to a career in medicine is the point.
