Hi Everyone!!

I just came back from Nova Southeastern Univ.

I know that are some of you guys that want some info about the school. If you have an interview coming up than you will probably be as shocked as I was....The School is so beautiful!!!

I have never seen a campus like it. All the students there are really nice and the same goes for the faculty. I spent 2 days there looking around for myself and not once did I see anything that I did not like. I found out soon if I am accepted so wish me luck!!! Good luck to all of you and I hope that You all get into your dental schools of choice. If anyone has any questions about NOVA please reply to this post I will do my best to answer. :D

What did you think about the fact that Nova is a very new school (i.e. no established reputation)?

UofM01,

Isn't the campus amazing!! Did they tell you that the Maimi Dolphins training camp/field is right next to the campus also? I was there last year for their post-bac. program interview and I loved the campus as well! Here are some questions for you about your interview experience:

1. Was it a panel interview?
2. How long did the whole process take (did it only included, a financial aid meeting, tour of campus/facilaties, and the interview)?
3. Isn't Fern, the receptionist super nice and hyper/active?
4. how many applicants interviewed during your session?

I wish you the best of luck, maybe we'll be classmates. I talked with Su-Ann recently and she said that I should hear from them soon since I submitted my AADSAS so late (late Nov). Any info that you want to share will be great!

To answer your question Fern could be one of the odddest people I have met to date. I had talked with her prior to going to the interview and let me tell you she is even odder in person.

To answer some of your questions...

Yes it is a new school with not a lot to say about it when talking reputation.
The 1st year students get to start doing cleanings on one another in the 2nd semestar. They really push the clinic there. Third and 4th years have a certain amount of requirements that they must fufill in order to graduate ( I think that this is a plus because everyone has to do a certain amt of everything). If you finish those requirements you can ask for more patients and do some more work to better yourself. The students there all seem very confident and they are all proud to be there. I have talked to students at other schools and I did not get the same type of feedback. Even if you are satisfied with your school of choice..arrange a time that you can go there and look at Novas Facilities WOW.

1. Was it a panel interview? Yes it was. The
panel consisted of 3 Faculty. Su Ann Zarrett being one of them. She is a Very Very nice lady. The other 2 faculty members were also extremly nice.

2. How long did the whole process take (did it only included, a financial aid meeting, tour of campus/facilaties, and the interview)? The interview process started at 12. 12-1:30 is a tour ( the school is amazing!!) and Financial aid meeting. 1:30-... is the interview each one of us went in for approx. 15- 20 minutes.

3. Isn't Fern, the receptionist super nice and hyper/active? Fern is the receptionist and yes she is super nice!! She is a very nice lady and she eases your stress by cracking jokes.

4. how many applicants interviewed during your session? 4 including myself.

:D :D :D

only 4 in your interview group? isn't that small? do you know how many they interview and how many they accept? how big is their class size? THANKS!

I just talk to Nova yesterday and this is what I got out of them (Fern, Su-Ann, and Nora):

They interview three times a week until end of March possibly into April and 4 applicants at a time! Thus far, they said that close to half the class (their class of 95) will be filled IF EVERYONE that was offered a seat accepts NOVA's acceptance.

so is this a good thing? i doubt all 40 would accept. if they interview at that pace until the end of march, thats around 144 applicants for 40 or more spots.

NOVA must be a great school if they have the courage to openly employ a pteridophyte.

yah-zzz,

I don't think the information you posted is correct. I interviewed there in mid october and we were the 10th group they interviewed (5/group back then so that gives you 50), and I', pretty sure they have interviwed another 100 easily by now. It wouldn't make sense for them to only accept 40/150. I personally know quite a few people that have gotten in. But they are pretty selective, one of the girls that interviewed with me had 3.5 and i think 21/19 dat and was put on the alternate list.

I think what su ann probably meant is that 40 people have put the deposit down (mine was due on jan 1st), so the class is half full. Out of these people usually some get into their state schools lator on and open up more seats. And I think their class is bigger than 80. It should be 90-100.

It is an awesome school with kick ass facilities. I have heard it from academic directors from other top named schools that they are very pleased and surprized by the progress nova has made (they're only 5 years old).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Good luck

Baracuda,

That IS what I got from Nova, no joke! They also told me that they had almost four weeks off near the holiday season on interviews between the months December and January!

Remember, Nova only interviews 3 days out the week and a group of 4 (according to the Nova admissions office) or 5 (according to Baracuda) a day. It is very likely that a school will interview three times than what they decide to accept! If they accept the majority of applicant right away starting in October, the class would be filled by now and then it would make no sense for a school to interview until late March!! Like you've mention, a girl with great academic number was put in the alternate list!

About their class size....you were right, it's 95 to be exact (I'm on the phone with Nora from Nova's admissions as we type)!!!

Well I'am one of those who has turned down their offer of acceptance. It's a really nice school if you don't have a state school. I just could not pass up in state tution and have decided to go to the U of Minnesota.

yah-zzz,

Maybe you're right. I didn't acount for the holliday season but still sending only forty acceptances out of all the people they interviewed seems a little gutzy since some people like anamond get into their state school. even if they get deposits put in at a 50% rate, that would be only 20 people and seventy five spots left in jan!! just doesn't add up. But there are lots of seats still open. Good luck on your interview, With your recent DAT scores you shouldn't have any problems. If you have any questions regarding the interview day, let me know.

anamond,

Congradulations on getting into your state school man. You're gonna save a bundle, its gonna be cold in min but you're gonna save a bundle. My state school would be UCLA and its next to impossible to get into that one. I'm currently deciding on Nova, Columbia, and Tufts (all expensive!!)

Hey Guys
I have an interview on the 15th of March in Nova. I was wondering that as it is too late for an interview, I should call them and try to get an earlier date. I would love to have some of your commnets on it. Also please let me know about the interviews, like how was it, and what do they generally ask
Thanks
Viraj

Viraj,

Just to ease your mind a bit...when I was at NOVA last week interviewing one of the 2 students giving us the tour informed us that she was not accepted until April. It really all depends on the class and how fast it fills. If I were you I would check with them periodically and see if there is any earlier openings. Good Luck! If you need any more info on NOVA just let me know I will do my best to help. :)

someone emailed me (about a year ago) from SDN. They said although NOVA was a nice school, the debt you'd be in after you graduated, would be a lot worse than other schools. Just thought I'd bring that to the table. :)

Simseema17,

That rumor is false. NOVAS' Tuition is about 27,000 a year. That is about average compared to most private schools. During the meeting the guide informed us that the first year would be the most expensive due to purchasing books and instruments and so forth.

Also, I talked to a student there who is graduating in MAY. When asked that very question he told me that he would be in debt about $180,000 by the time he was done. He was living alone and in MIAMI. He told me that he did not mind the drive just as long as he was happy! lol

I hope this helps.

PS. I am still thanking god everyday that I was accepted there.
 :D

UofM01,

Did you check my PM for you? I asked about your academic numbers (DAT and GPAs)! Thanks!

I sent you an email.
