Why is it that I never see threads about Nova? Is this just coincidence? I am interested in applying there and wanted to see what people thought of it. Feel free to bash it but make some sort of argument why as opposed to "Nova is crap...."

TY

I thought NOVA (NSUCOM) was a good school. It has a strong program, good clinical sites, and a pretty nice campus. For me, I decided on AZCOM, only because I felt I "fit" better (with students, faculty, and the general curriculum--besides, AZ is a DRY HEAT 🙂 )

If I were you, I would definitely apply there. Are you going to apply to AZCOM too?

Later,
Matt

I recently submitted my application to NOVA. Florida is a beautiful place. People were telling me that it is a great osteopathic school with one of the most advanced campus/ classrooms. I couldn't tell you how it is with regards to student life, but everything I have heard has been good.

Just so you know, each class at Nova has their own website so that's the main reason that you don't see too much on here...

Nova is an excellent school!!!!

check out www.nsucom.info

🙂

I chose Nova over 7 other medical schools simply because it was overall a good school. Everyone, from adminstration to the students, were very friendly and on top of things. If I had a question, someone was eager to answer or find out for me during my interview.

Like others have stated with their own medical school experiences, I saw this as a place where most of the students were very happy. I received very few complaints about the school. This was one of the few schools where the Dean actually sat down with the interviewees and had a nice, lengthy conversation. He actually took the time to learn our names during the interview and talk to us about where we came from.Dr. Slivgani is hilarious and an amazing person. In regards to the education, I have heard from many physicians that this is an outstanding school. Great clinical sites to train at as well. Furthermore, who wouldn't want to go to school in South Florida. 😎 😎

In regards as to why there aren't too many NSUCOM posts, I can tell you my personal experience. Being an Ohio resident, I intended on going to an instate school rather than out of state. I applied to NSUCOM as a shot in the dark. Didnt really know to much about the school other than it's GREAT location (Fort Lauderdale 😍 ). I recieved an interview and went down there. Truly amazed. Quickly, it supplanted my in state medical school as my number one choice. I considered it a "hidden gem." Some people shun away NSUCOM due to tuition. I had a friend from Alabama who turned down NSUCOM for University of South Alabama...a difference of 21,000 a year in tuition. He told me if he would have gotten the same tuition at NSUCOM as he did at USA he would have came in a heart beat. Yet, there a lot of people who really don't know aobut it till they come and visit. Once they visit, they are amazed. I guess you just have to see it to believe it. 🙂 🙂

As an MS-II at Nova, there is a lot of good I can tell you about this place... you might want to ask specific questions and I'm sure people would be happy to give you specific answers. One thing I will tell you... when I was interviewing (seems like a million years ago), Nova was the only medical school where I actually saw students smiling. This was something that stuck with me and played a big part in my decision. If you have any questions you can post them to our class website www.nsucom2006.com or you can PM me if you'd like. Bottom line is that you have to go somewhere you are going to be happy... if you want a competitive residency you'll get it with hard work at whatever med school you go to. Unless you're at a top 10 allopathic school, I don't think name recognition is worth a damn. People who use it as an excuse are the same people who miss a layup and blame their shoes. Every school has good things and bad things about it... i have friends at a couple different DO and MD schools and all of the complaints seem to stem from the sheer politics of the various administrations and ego's of the PhD professors. My simple logic is that when you're happy, you do better in school and in life, so why don't you go where you feel the happiest.

I woudl recommend NSUCOM. I recently graduated from the DO program this past May... and matched in a competitive residency at my first choice, and am very happy with my medical education. Granted, the tuition is a bit high, but soon most schools will have tuition that is "a bit high."

If you coudl go somewhere that's 10-20k cheaper a year, DO IT! Otherwise, if you are looking at comparing DO schools ot NSUCOM, you'll have a hard time finding a school that is superior to NSUCOM.

What are the stats for matriculants to NSUCOM? It's my #1 choice DO school right now and I'm HOPING to get in.

Tuition isn't an object for me ... I'm going to do HPSP. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the adcom stated that they tend to look for GPAs around 3.4 and above and MCAT scores of 27 and above.

Don't worry about hte stats for a medical school. If you had a 3.3 GPA and a 26 on the MCAT, would that mean you wouldn't apply? Just apply anyways and hope for an interview.

Apply. In the long run, the $1000 you spend now for applying to medical schools (or osteopathic schools) means little. I know several pre-meds who stayed at medical student's apartments while they were interviewing, and a drive from SC to FL is easy.

Hey lotrfan81....

I am gonna jump on the pro-Nova bandwagon with the rest of the NSUCOM-veterans here....I'm gonna be a first-year with Dr.Doogie and others(starting in a couple weeks in fact 😎 )

I chose NSUCOM over 8 other DO schools and an in-state MD school. In fact, for me...I felt the Nova was a better fit than AZCOM(personally I liked the rotation sites around the south florida and florida area because of the nationally-recognized hospitals that Nova is affiliated with). Another plus is definitely technology...you got "Harvey"-the cardiology simulator where you can listen to virtually all known murmurs and cardiac defects using these awesome infrared stethoscopes that everyone in the class will have....also you have a wireless campus...they even let you check out wireless laptops at the huge palace that they call a library! The students are beyond friendly...there are no perfect words to describe how helpful and happy they are and how cooperative everyone seems. The dean, though I didnt get a chance to meet him...has put a couple of my friends to near tears after their interview because apparently his speech was so warming and touching that he inspired everyone to become a doctor and really told them the meaning of the profession and our place in it as future physicians. And I heard he's realllllllly funny too!! NSUCOM is definitely the "hidden gem" as Doogie put it...I have told all my pre-med friends to apply next year as most all of them usually only apply to Des Moines, AZCOM or CCOM..since I am from chicago....but I turned all those down to attend Nova! I can't wait to get started..and I must say...dont put your app in without applying to Nova...you'll surely love it when you come down!

Good luck,
Mani 😎 (gotta pimp the south florida shades)

Wow, guys, it sounds like all of you really like Nova. It is always awesome to hear such positive comments. I just had another question. What is HPSP?

I think the reason I didn't notice most of the Nova posts was because it is also referred to as NSUCOM. I didn't know that. I do know 😉

Don't ever say "NOVA" in front of the administration or the Dean... the name of the school is Nova Southeastern University - College of Osteopathic Medicine... shortened to NSUCOM, NOT Nova! There hasn't been a Nova University in four years.

I am sure they wouldn't castrate me for it, but I will keep that in mind. If I get an interview.....
