Has anyone on here been keeping up with the newest addition to the gov't vs. science soap opera?

Recently, SAMSHA canceled its contract with NREPP without any warning. The head of SAMSHA released a statement about it:

Statement of Elinore F. McCance-Katz, MD, PhD, Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use regarding the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices and SAMHSA’s new approach to implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs) | SAMHSA - Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

I am actually relieved to see some fireworks and back-and-forth debate surrounding the whole 'outcome-based practice' and 'evidence-based practice' movements in psychotherapy. We need more of it. As a parenthetical issue, I'm concerned about the increasing sole reliance on transparently face-valid patient self-report checklists/ questionnaires and decreasing weight given to thorough differential diagnostic interview/rating by experienced professionals, objective psychological testing (with validity scales) and plain ole clinical hypothesis formulation, testing, and revision in the context of a case formulation approach to assessment and treatment.
