Hi all.
I've heard unconfirmed rumours (from a surgical registrar no less) that while 80-100 new trainees are selected for SET each year (this bit is true, as I read it on the college website) by the Royal Aust. College of Surgeons, there are around 400 applicants.
Is the bit about 400 applicants vying for 80-100 spots true? I am surprised by this as I was under the impression that general surgery was not that popular.
It would be understandable if there were 80 applicants for 20 spots in plastic/reconstructive surg, but 400 applicants for 100 spots in gen surg?
Could someone in the know please clarify this issue?
Thanks in advance..
