number of schools

How many schools did you all apply to? I'm applying to 15 and don't think i can afford more than one more.... I figure it's a decent number, but just wanted to ask around for averages.

I was a borderline applicant, so I applied to 22 on amcas, but only had the energy to send back 18.

Realize that if you're still in school when you do these secondaries, you might not be able to get them all in, so sometimes it's good to apply to a few extra on the amcas application :wink:

The more you apply to, the better the odds are.

If you're a strong applicant, there's no need to apply to an excessive amount, but it's still VERY IMPORTANT to apply to a wide range of schools....that includes schools that are not ranked in the top 50 USNews rankings! :wink:

Applied to 12 and that was to many FOR ME. It depends on what your stats are and how you think you will perform in the interview.

I met people on the interview trail that had applied to 33 schools. I could barely send back all the secondaries.

Do what you feel comfortable with, but as Foxy says, the more you apply to the better the odds.

if i had to do it over again, i'd apply to same number, maybe even more (my stats are above average, but the process is a crapshoot; applying to any less schools is selling yourself short imho)

i applied to 26. funny thing is that i am going to the med school that i interviewed at first (way back in sept).

23 and a wide range, as Dr. Foxy recommends. It was quite hectic completing all the secondaries while preparing for the August MCAT (some didn't get returned until Sept/Oct) and battling AMCAS to process my app, but I'm glad I did it. I got into my farthest reach, but my other acceptances were at lower or unranked schools. Got a lot of rejections from schools where I thought I'd be competitive. So, apply to lots of schools, and a wide variety. The process is incredibly unpredictable. Good luck, all!!

30, around half is top 50. I would say I'm a borderline applicant.
