Hi all,

I hate to sound like a whiner, or neurotic, or some awful combination of the two, but I really wonder if I'll get into med school this time around and am feeling pretty discouraged. I guess I may be jumping the gun b/c I obviously haven't seen my Aug. scores yet, but as it is right now, I'm applying with a 26Q, 3.4 science, 3.7 overall, and just got rejected by my STATE school, even being a resident and all that fun stuff.....and right now am feeling pretty bummed out. I know my MCAT isn't that hot, and am so very afraid that I'm just screwed for this whole process. Barring a grand miracle, I doubt my scores will go up more than 3 points. ::sigh:: But what really bugs me is that I know I am a strong applicant, and all the professors/physicians I have taken classes or done research with tell me I will be an excellent doctor and that I'm a great student....I've done so many EC's and am very committed....and will have outstanding LORs, BUT, no med school can see any of that until past the secondary screening and then the interview, which is highly dependent on the damn numbers. Any words of optimism from some med students, or anyone, for that matter? Anyone know of ppl with my score who have gotten into a allo program? Thanks in advance.

chickenpotpie,

Thanks for your time on that! I have done that search, and most (not all, for sure, but most) of those ppl got into a DO program, which is great, but I'm going for MD. So it still is an issue for me.... thanks anyway though!

WOW!!! seriously, how'd you get that data, chickenpotpie?!?!? i'd love to see that with the race and gender of each applicant. it would help me either put to bed or strengthen some notions i've got.

look at this!! there's hope!! i think it depends on what schools you are applying. if you apply to schools within your range, i think it'll be all good

Those look like allopathic schools to me, however many may be URM.

I think it's your age. I bet adcom is scrutinizing your application pretty hard, regardless of your scores, b/c they want to make sure that you have the maturity, stamina and aptitude to succeed in medical school.

From mdapplicants:

overall GPA > 3.7 and < 3.8
science GPA > 3.4 and <3.5

less than 21 yrs = 0 applicants accepted
21-25 yrs = 14 applicants accepted

Unfortunately, our numbers score the most points in this fun game called Let Me Into Medical School. You sound determined, sincere and dedicated. No doubt, it will be Dr. Morganlefay someday. Good luck! :luck:

Thanks so much! True, it might be my age, even though I think that is so discriminatory considering I've gone through and succeeded at everything that every other pre-med must do, but I'm 3 years younger. So if that's the case, I'm even more upset at UF. Also, I hope that mdapplicants isn't representative of the population.....I mean, once I get an interview, they can see I'm mature and dedicated, and all that good stuff, but I need to get one first!!! Thanks again, and I can't wait til I can post that I'm Dr. Morganlefay in training......:D

I think the schools listed are the undergrad institutions.
